Called in sick. Seriously, I would've paid more attention to the iceberg warnings and sailed a few miles further south. Keeping a sharp lookout on a moonless night is tough duty, but perhaps a change in the watches and a pair of binoculars could've made the difference. There were 7 things that went wrong that night; had any 1 of them gone right, the disaster could've been avoided or, at least, all souls saved sans ship.

(assuming after the iceberge?) 2 things, one, not be so concerned with making it seem like it wasn't an emergency that the people dont take it seriously. did u know that despite the fact there werent enough escape boats, most of them were half empty because the people didnt think it was an emergency? the crew didnt want to "panic" them i guess.
second, i would have let the men go with the women and kids, if the rich snobs wanted to stay in their cabins, why should rescue boats sail off half full leaving the men who did want to go?
