it depends. the terrorists of the Osama bin Laden faction are Jihadists. their motives are religious in nature. their goal is ultimately to make everybody Muslim.
but crazy people CAN carry out sophistcated plans. crazy and stupid are two different things. also, the Jihadist method is not sophistcated. it amounts to sneaking in and blowing stuff up. it is not complex, crashing something into something. it is reckless b/c they don't care who they kill, that is why they are dangerous. they don't have any rules, b/c they think GOD is controlling them.
the lybians were pretty sophistcated b/c they were actually trying to accomplish something. they would take over aplane and demand the release of a prisoner.
really the jihadists are different than any terrorist organization we have ever seen before. jihadists do what they do b/c God told them to. they are right we are wrong. they are good we are evil, and there is no argument b/c God said.
it really is unique with the jihadists.
lastly, i get the feeling that there is something that we don't know about driving them too. i think something changed in their group just before this jihad on the west that made it clear in their minds that this was the will of Allah. i really think they think there is some mystical, over the rainbow magical, holy grail that they will get and then be able to open the gate of tragabor and enter the gleem shagen. See what I mean?

Political domination and Economic control of the middle east. To me the abuse of religious sensitivities doesn't hide the fact that the leadership of al quaida consists of wealthy greedy capitalists . The whole religious justification might be more or less believed by Osama and the rest but primarily serves to rally the masses to fight and die for their cause. "Men never commit evil so fully and joyfully as when they do it for religious convictions"
-- Blaise Pascal
The Bin Laden family is in real estate and despite all the religious talk I believe the real motives of Osama are economically. Ironically the same can be said of the West. Osama tells his soldiers they fight for good cos Allah wants them too, Bush tells his soldiers they are spreading freedom and Democracy. Both are deliberate misdirections meant to hide the real agenda of economic Imperialism. This war like most wars is about big money and that's the bottom line.
Osama is a great propagandist cos the facts are most Muslims reject his vision of Islam, most Arabs will not willfully choose Taliban style rule. They are people, they like their music TVs and popular culture. Fact Osama never cared about the fate of the Palestinian people but does a great job at using the big grievances about that in the Muslim world for his cause.
There are some statements from al quaida out there that suposedely tell their goals. It's widely believed Osama wants a Kalifat stretching throughout the middle east and reaching deeply into Northren Africa. The reasons given are relious but again I believe the real motives are economic Imperialism.

Humanity must realize that though they're each fighting to make their piece of the pie bigger, Corperate America and its allies as well as Al Quaida are both forces of big money trying to divert people from asking the real questions and focusing on the real issues like opression of the working class and the thrid world. This war makes many ordinairy people afraid, ,too afraid to be critical freethinking citizens who would demand real change and an end to the absurdities and inhumane realities of todays economical and political reality.
Half the world — nearly three billion people — live on less than two dollars a day.
The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the poorest 48 nations (i.e. a quarter of the world’s countries) is less than the wealth of the world’s three richest people combined.
Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names.
Less than one per cent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn’t happen.
1 billion children live in poverty (1 in 2 children in the world). 640 million live without adequate shelter, 400 million have no access to safe water, 270 million have no access to health services. 10.6 million died in 2003 before they reached the age of 5 (or roughly 29,000 children per day)

Terrorists primary goal is to inflict fear. Fear creates necessity, and also makes a country desperate. Which is why we went into Iraq on little more than a few faulty warnings with very little verification.
Yes, we have fallen into a trap, but it is on more than just a scale than Iraq, or 9/11. We have allowed ourselves to be taken by fear, which has thus led us to believe that in order to be safe we can give up our God given freedoms. If we wanted to be free, we shouldn't have let the terrorist attack scare us, but said "So, you hit us. It's time to seal the borders to illegal immigration, and make it harder for weapons and enemies to enter the country."
But we didn't, we decided we had to start a witch hunt. One that has cost us Billions of Dollars, and now has the government monitoring millions of suspected civilian lines without warrants to tap them. We now have United States troops fighting a civil war in Iraq because we were afraid.
Their goal was fear, and now we're afraid, the fact we retaliated at all proves that much.

carry out a touch studying and practice your self about the peoples in that area. the quite a few ethnic communities we talk with as "Arabs" develop into attentive to themselves in a unique way depending on area. imagine "American Indian" as against Apache, Navajo, Sioux, and so on. ask your self why NO different u . s . a . contained in the middle east is keen to settle for any great numbers of those undesirable, displaced, persecuted Palestinians. there's a reason. ask your self what your attitude will be in route of Palestinians in the adventure that they threatened to "kill each and every guy, lady and new child" of your ethnic heritage and "erase the memory of them from the earth". be conscious that contained in the 60 years of Israel's existence, they have discovered to cultivate and strengthen nutrition of their personal u . s . a .. at the same time as they became over huge elements to the Palestinians contained in the ninety's, the Israelis *gave* them some farmlands alongside with the irrigation device. interior of three years it became barren and deserted. They care not for self-sufficiency. in no way. The PLO thinks the UN might want to help them because they're an "abused" people.

There existed few Middle-Eastern based terrorists up until about the past couple decades ago. Most people are not unique thinkers....they copy....and from whom did the middle-eastern terrorists copy from?
Re: Taking Over America. This is a regurgitation of the old Domino communist theory. Your government likes you being scared as this means you will demand your own loss of freedom and enslavement.
Re: They want you out. Of course!! You wouldn't want the Russian army over here telling you their brand of religion and government.
Re: Crazy.... The leaders of ALL governments and movements get people impassioned to fight their wars...find me a leader who favors any war and I'll show you a shrewd crazy.

I am not certain ,but I have been thinking alot like you and the only sure things now are that yes our military is being weakened, and our checkbook is way overdrawn, but I don't see any enemy that has done this to us only our own administration with lies and undermining our constitution,I am starting to realize our enemy is the current administration, and we should be afraid, be VERY afraid. I wish we could wake up the complacent people and take our country back

They want to bring everyone down to their level, to be poor like they are. Also they want everyone to believe in their version of the bible. If you don't believe like they do, they will kill you, or not of their religion. They think their religion should be the only one, and any others should be put to death. It's funny, but if all religions felt this way, there wouldn't be a soul left alive on the planet!! If you really read the bible, it has a lot of justified killing going on in it, all in the name of God! I believe if God wanted to kill someone, he wouldn't need any help from us. He brought us into this world, and he sure enough can take us out, so he doesn't need any help. I pretty sure he's looking down on us and weeping, wondering where he went wrong.

Their goal is to control the world.
Their global strategy began in 1977 with a man by the name of Juhaiman who recruited followers over a couple of years and attempted to take Islam's most holy shrine by force in 1979 (the Grand Mosque in Mecca). He failed and all of his followers were either killed or executed.
As part of the compromise between him and the religious leaders of Saudi Arabia, the Saudi royal family agreed to fund Wahhabi schools with oil revenues. The schools being funded are in about a dozen countries, including Palestine, Pakistan, Somalia, Mauritania, Yemen and others, along with those in Saudi Arabia.
Wahhabi schools are militant hard right wing Muslim schools that include weapons training and Sharia rules from childhood to adulthood.
Osama Bin Laden was in college in Jedda in 1979, and he and one of his professors took Juhaiman's philosophy and formed a terrorist organization based in Afghanistan in 1980 to fight against the Soviet Union. They use the Wahhabi schools to recruit "freedom fighters", and these fighters are trained in Afghanistan to take part in uprisings all over the world.
They don't consider themselves terrorists, they consider themselves militia units used in various Muslim neighborhoods and serve the purpose of overthrowing as many governments as possible. As an example, about half of the 9-11 hijackers were already veterans of wars in Chechnya and Bosnia, fighting on behalf of al Qaida in both places.
There are currently about 20 different countries where al Qaida groups are struggling to overthrow governments.

Simple...
It's all emotional...
Think about it...Where ever you are from...you tend to want that town foot ball team to win the championship game, right?!
All you cared about was THAT YOUR TEAM won.
That is the same with these guys...
They want THIER RELIGION to be the dominate force.
Sounds irrational right?!!!! It's because it is....these guys are irrational.
So what if the whole world became Islamic...and they took over the United States......they would find another cause to go raging in the streets about.
