I'm a sophomore in college. My freshman year started off with me having an undecided major and then I decided to become an industrial engineer. I took math classes up to Calc 2, but I'd need to take more math like Calc 3, Probability and Statistics, and Differential Equations and probably more math classes for that major. I got a little freaked out about the math and last summer, I thought being an X-Ray technician would be cool. I thought all I'd have to do is to take pictures of the patients and send them on their way. I then got to thinking, I don't want to injure someone plus, I have no clue if I'm really interested in this enough to do it for a career. I can't think of anything I'm good at or what I'm interested in. I'm now leaning towards becoming an industrial engineer again. I can't seem to make up my mind. I thought maybe could try those math classes and become an industrial engineer. What major should I choose? How much math is involved/how hard is being an IE ? Thank

Umm just ask your self this question: "Do I really like this major?" think about it, I mean from the looks of it it seems as if you do like it. To be honest in order to be in engineer you need to have a high knowledge of math, meaning you need to know all the math that there is. My brother is a civil engineer and he said that the last calculus is of course the hardest, but don't freak out I mean once you get the hang of it you will like the profession. That is of course if you really want to study all that math.

About the X-ray technician idea from what I read it sounds as if you are a bit confused about it, maybe if you spoke with a person who actually works in that field. Ask them what they do, how hard is their job, etc.... just take ur time making your decisions unless you have a scholarship or loan paying your schooling, speak with a counselor like the first answerer said,, speak with your professors don't be afraid. Oh about the question how hard is being an industrial engineer usually all engineering jobs are a bit tough, but I think you can handle the work load, just remember if you wanna be an engineer dedicate most of your time to your studies since the career is not so easy. Good luck making your decision, remember ask people in the field, and your counselor.

I have a friend who is doing IE. I think it is the easiest of all to get a degree in. He only had to take calc 2.

But, maybe you should instead look into becoming an entreprenuer. You might find engineering borring.

I recommend job shadowing a radiologic technologist (the correct term for x-ray tech) to see what we do. Call your local hospital to set it up.

Go to your guidance/career counsellor, take some tests to determine your interest......
