Im building a small room within a room, and I am not bolting it to the floor. Its going to be constructed of plywood so that I can play my guitar and crank up the volume. Im simply going to use 5 pieces of plywood. 4 for the sides and one for the top. Im going to put this in my basement.

My question is what kind of material should I line the insides with?

ear plugs material is pretty good if you stick it in the ears of those whom the sound is meant to be shielded from.

nah, i recommend drywall layers with a gap in between each layer

Thank you for not asking "What's the best?" We all have opinions obviously.

That said however; I'll add my 2 cents.

BEST would likely be conical acoustical foam; in sheets; such as what's used in sound studios. Your issue in the description is that you'll use single sheet, wall construction; and might have to do something with the exterior of it as well; IE: Construction grade Foam Insulation panels; often sold in 4 x 8 sheets and 2 inch thick might help some.

Certainly acoustical tiles might as well; somewhat? BTW; with all due respect egg cartons will be of little help.

The ceiling will have to be lined; and you might consider something on the floor; such as carpet and padding.

Since you're only allowing a "room" approximately 16 sq. ft. it's gonna be a tight squeeze, so whatver you do may break any "sound barrier?"

Hi dear, This is Susan From NC. How much size of your music studio, depending upon size we can use different types of soundproofing material. As per my knowledge you can use "Acoustic Wallpapers" it would be suitable option for you, so it helps to reduce up to 70% of noise. There are many suppliers for the soundproof materials. Soundproofmyhome and united plastic corporation they are best supplier in soundproofing material. Thank you.

carpet is used in sound studios for a reason. You can buy cheap carpet at a home center or go to a local dealer and rummage thru his dumpster. We've pulled out carpet that's only been in for weeks because the homeowner didn't like the color. Cork is also a natural sound proofer and delivers great acoustics
