The on board computer says it has a faulty EGR valve, which was serviced. The check light turned on few days later after a hard acceleration (up to 4000-5000rpm). What can be wrong with the car?

Could be that the EGr valve is showing up bad because of a vacuum leak. That could be from a hose disconnected or a crack in one or more.

What no one has touched on and what you didn't mention, is the thermostat. If it's stuck open, it's not going to heat up properly and use more gas.

Simple things to do, check the oil, air cleaner, plug wires for cracks and tires for proper pressure. Simple tune up from a shop will replace plugs and properly gap them, wires, if needed, air filter, oil and oil filter and check the timing. That could be another reason it's using more gas.

If your car never heats up and the temp gauge, if it has one, doesn't go up to the middle and/or the heater never gets hot, either you have no or little fluid in the radiator or the thermostat is stuck open. That alone, will cause your car not to heat up and it will run rich all the time. This causes more gas to be used and could, because of the extra gas for prolonged periods of times, wash the oil off the cyclinders and shorten the life of the engine.

All the things in first few could be problem, -but you might want to take it to a muffler shop and have them "flow check" the exhaust system to make sure it isn't plugged up (especially the catylitic converter) This could possibly be the computer telling you it can't "exhale" very well!

Also how good was the "tuneup" last time, - or have you ever had it tuned up yet? If ignition timing is not right it could affect performance as well as fuel mileage (since they are related)

First and for most before you take it to the garage for them to charge you to do several simple tasks. How long has it been since you changed your air filter. You should change your air filter every 6,000 miles. Every 3,000 you should clean it. This consists of simply taking a vacuum to it. Also remember to change your fuel filter every 60,000 miles. This could also be eating up your gas consumption. This also could cause the EGR valve error. Something else to check for fuel consumption is your air pressure in your tires. If they are underinflated not only is it dangerous but also it can eat away at your MPG. Hope this helped

How many times are you going to ask this question? But I would take it in for a tune up. It coul be several things.
