I just wonder because I sometimes feel that we as males tend to underrate a female rapper because of her gender.

Good question! Jean Grae, Lauryn Hill and MC Lyte are my favourites, but Rakim is very tough competition.
Obviously, as a woman, I would be more than happy to admit it, but I think (some) men would have a problem with it.
Some women in rap seem to either act like men or like hoes to make it, which is why the 3 I've mentioned are my favourites, because they've proved there's no need for that.
I'll be interested to see what answers you get for this one.

I asked my brother this question, (Good question BTW) and he said he wouldn't. He was just like, he'd give her props and all, but he wouldn't reign her the greatest.

I think men feel that way because 'usually' female rappers are produced by men who write many of their lyrics... And the fact that women producers and managers are few and far between that can be one of the main reasons why the music remains so misogynist. (Maybe that was too strong of a word, but... It gets the point across.)

Nah...I wouldn't admit there was.....I would admit there are females that are close to Rakim's level tho.(reference to the name above)

in just about everything.
women are rarely taken seriously.
