Visit them with a smile, a hug and an open ear for listening. Be patient with them and do not judge them. Sometimes doing a small task like taking out the trash can make a difficult day much better. If you live in an area where it snows, shoveling the walks and drive will really help.

Play the music from their youth. The last few days, I have felt a little down because of family problems and just happened to come across the PBS "Doo pop special with all my favourite groups singing the music from the "50's . Well , I felt my mood change almost immediately. Music is food for the soul. We all got old but the music will live on forever.

Spend some time with them, visit them, eat with them, share coffee, play cards, anything that shows them that you care enough to spend time with them.
