If you can still see the command prompt, just hit the X at the top-right corner. Otherwise, in the command prompt, just type "exit" and hit ENTER.

If the program is refusing to close, force it to quit. Two ways to do this: (1) right-click on your task bar and click "Task Manager" or (2) hit CTRL-SHIFT-ESC all at the same time. In the Task Manager, look in the Processes tab for a program called "cmd.exe", click it and then click "End Task" or "End Process".

That should work for you. You can also right-click the "cmd.exe" down on your task bar and select "Close" from the menu.

if you know to run netstat, and understand what it is for, then you should have the technical skills necessary to not be asking this on a public board.

Plus, since you've given absolutely no info as to what you are seeing on netstat that makes you want to kill it... it leaves out any possibility of someone giving you a "better" answer.

If you really want to know what program(s) you are seeing... get FPORT and then you will know what program you are actually seeing so that you can figure out whether or not it's really something you want to kill...

No clue why people are telling you to kill stuff from the task manager since you won't know which to kill on task manager from where you are at...
get fport.

Good Luck

Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and the Task Manager will come up. It will show a list of the programs that are running. You can click on the one you want to stop and choose "End Task".
