It's illegal to do a U-turn on a 2-lane road.
The cops always set up the 'road check' sign at such a place that there's nowhere to legally turn round before you get to the checkpoint.
If they blow it, and there's something like a store parking lot you can go into, then come out of in the opposite direction, that's legal, and does not give them legal grounds to pull you over.
A DUI roadblock is legal. Stopping a driver 'at random' is legal. Targeted stops are NOT legal, and pulling someone over for legally avoiding a roadblock is a targeted stop.

Turning around to avoid a roadblock is not illegal (assuming that you are at a location where it would otherwise be legal). However, such an action can be interpreted by an objective observer (i.e. the officers operating a road block and a judge at a later hearing) as an attempt to evade or flee the road block. The U.S. Supreme Court has found that flight from law enforcment creates "reasonable suspicion" authorizing a brief stop and detention to determine the reason for that flight.
My experience has been that a significant number of people attempting to evade road blocks are either intoxicated or suspended or have outstanding warrants or contraband.

Not illegal (if the turn itself is legal) but it's pretty much guaranteed to get you pulled over.
Avoiding a road check looks suspicious. Suspicion = probable cause = you get stopped.

No,but heres the catch,if you are seen turning, this gives the authorites a probable cause, which means they can chase you down and pull you over
A few tears back I was making deliveries to a store on a corner in West Covina Ca.There was a DUI checkpoint at the light.everyone who turned, within visual sight was chased by motorcycle cops and stopped.

I don't think it's illegal but it pretty much gives them a "HEADS UP" that somethings going on with you or your car that you don't want them finding out about. And theres ALWAYS a cop hiding waiting for turn arounds.

If you turn around they will come after you and find some reason to pull you over...
They usually have patrol a few blocks before the check point!

My first step was to realize the deity status of Jesus is a myth. Why would an all-knowing God send the savior of the world when the news could not be spread in an efficient manner? Rev. Neil

thats one sure way to get pulled over, its kind of like evading, you know you are avoiding the police, and they know you must have a reason, they are going to find out what that reason is.
