We just put up Xmas lights.
Now none of them work.
I tried plugging in a radio to the outlet and there is no power going to the outlet.
Does anyone know the problem.
I think it might be a circuit breaker.
If it is then how do i check and replace it.
Im not exactly an electrician and im trying not to kill myself.
Any help would be appreciated

THE rest of the house has power, just not the outlets that had the xmas lights plugged in

If your dealing with an outside outlet, go to your bathroom and/or garage and check your GFI.....hit the red reset button. If that doesn't work, check your breaker box. In an older house you may find it in a closet. If you live in a newer house it's usually in the garage. Check to see if all the switches are flipped to the on position. Good Luck.

First look for any GFCI outlets and make sure they are reset. Then look for the breaker panel. There might be a GFCI breaker in there, or a breaker may just be tripped. To reset a breaker, first turn it all the way to the off position, then back on. If you still don't have power(how do you know the power is off?) Then go to the hardware store and buy a circuit analyzer. They cost about 10 to 15 $s, and are worth the money.

If the breaker is tripped the switch handle will be in the center. Flip it off then on again, if it stays in the on position everything is fine if it trips again better check to make sure all the lights aren't overloading it. If that's not the problem hire an electrician.

first thing is find the g f i outlet this is a socket usually in bathroom that has a red button and a black button on it you push it it says set and reset or test try the outlet again and see if it works ...if not look for another g f i plug outlet in either kitchen or garage (g f i means ground fault interupter in otherwords if the current gets interupted it flicks off the power) these plugs are usually around water areas . make sure you tested them all ...if you have a old house they dont have them...in this case or if the gfi didnt work find your breaker box....this is outside usually by a back door or in garage or laundry area...a big grey box with a door...open door when you open it you will see either a bunch of on and off switches like a light or you will see a bunch of round glass screw in bottle cap size "fuses" look on the door and see if you see any writing like living room kitchen garage etc...try and find the area of your plug thats not working for instance if outlet thats not working is in kitchen look for fuse to match ....flip the light switch ( fuse breaker) first to off then back up to on....if your ""in the dark"" as to what one it is go along and flip each one first down to off then up to on.. it wont hurt anything you will just have to reset your clocks...if you have the glass round ones ....unscrew the bottlecap and replace with a new bottlecap fuse (you should keep spares around the box) you can get them at home depot.
now try the plug on a lamp...(dont use a radio cuz you might be overlooking is it on cd or other silly overlooks)
if you still cant light the lights look in the plug of the christmas lights there is YES ANOTHER FUSE!!!!!!
two to be exact ...little glass ones like use to be in cars only alot smaller....lift or slide the little door on the plug open and check them>>>>>replace if you need to or GET NEW LIGHTS!!!!!! Hey merry christmas and good luck
