The Solution is to weaken laws that prohibit legal citizens from carrying guns. Guns will always fall into the wrong hands. What we need to do is to make it easier to fall into the right hands. The Police are brave but it takes time to get where a crime is taking place. We need to be able to defend ourselves. Take the Virginia Tech shooter. If one of those 31 people he killed was able to return fire maybe he wouldn't have been able to kill 31 people. Instead the school was a "gun free" zone, where legal citizens were not allowed to have handguns but making an area "gun free" does NOT stop criminals, because criminals don't obey the law.

For one thing, in the US there are so many guns that a firearm safety class should be mandatory. No matter what your opinion of the NRA is, they do have the best gun safety training available - they need to if they want to continue to defend their position in favor of making a gun available to anyone who can legally own one.
