Religion is the most common cause, usually stemming from the intolerance for the beliefs of others. On top of that, resources (land, oil, etc.) also play a large part. But these are just excuses, the reason that we have wars is because as on a biological level, we are a hostile and war like species. So like the hippies love one another and ;-) no war.

in sociological perspective,wars happen due to insecurity,inequality among people on religious or economic or racial basis..On an economic prespective it happens mostly due to human greed,want for more wealth and power....they achieve this by conquering lands (nations or provinces)...usually wars happen in a dictatorship or a totalitarian state...it happens for the self satisfaction of those in power...too fullfill their desires..
