Morality is defined by none of the things you have described.Morality is the issue of what is right,Gay people can have morality, its the act of sex thats is immoral.According to the Bible.Yet the Bible is full of stories of wars, incest, homesexuality, and these are the stories of people whom did immoral acts and consequences followed.
Like me,a Catholic,a drug addict(2 years sober)(and it was a hard road to recover) or my little brother(whom was an alcoholic and died at 39)Each act of Immorality(for not doing the right things) brings consequence. This is not preaching, this is just what happens when you do immoral acts.People push, wars happen and so on and so on.The fore fathers created this nation with God in mind, whatever God you believe in and the declaration of Independence,a political document, proves that politics, religion, and rights go hand in hand.(its worked for over 200 years so far,why change it now)

Actually, a candidates religeous beliefs/morality should have no bearing on their electability. It has only become an issue due to the constant whining by the anti-secular types that have hi-jacked the demon-crat party. They seek a socialist model of government where there are no moral judgements, sexual predators are allowed to repeat their offenses over and again and there is an ever-growing movement to diminish traditional values. As far as ones sexual orientation goes, every person in the U.S. has the right to pursue whatever lifestyle they choose. There are very few countries on the globe that allow anything other than male-female relationships. Many even physically punish homo-sexuals. There is nothing warped about practicing religion and being a good samaritan.

Religion has nothing to do with morality. A person does not display morals when he/she makes decisions based on religious beliefs. That would be more of synthetic morals, which is fake blind obedience. There is more to morals than following set guide lines.
Morals are innate and very difficult to teach once an individual reaches adulthood, which most about morals is an individual's innate ability to tell the difference between right and wrong.
An individual should not need a bible to know the difference between right and wrong. If so, then in my opinion that individual is mentally weak.

'Morals' are determined by religion, as something valued by God, and not necessarily people. 'Values' are what people invent to replace morality when we care more about our own wants than what is right or wrong. Morality is important in politics because our leaders should know what right and wrong is apart from their own urges, which is the source of corruption of power.
Our sense of right and wrong is often subverted by wants and desires, since no one is perfect. A codex of morality (i.e. religion) can be a stabilizing force against that.

Well, you know how recovering smokers, or alcoholics, get this self righteous attitude, and start telling everyone they should quit, and act like they never had the problem to begin with?
Well many born-again Christians are the same, and feel everyone else should be born-again under the watchful eye of the government.
Right-wingers view freedom of religion as they do freedom to make up your own mind about sexual preference. Basically they want freedom for their own religions, and all others are OK as long as it is kept in the closet.

Religion has NO PLACE in Politics or Government! The first time an elected official makes a decision that effects the people based solely on his/her religious beliefs they should be thrown out!

Religion is important because a leader will lead based upon his beliefs. If he feels something is against his religion, he's not going to act on it. Make any sense?
