You are absolutely correct. There is a town, I think in Florida, not sure, but, several years ago, they mandated that at least one member per household, learn how to use and own a gun.
Guess what? The crime rate went way down.

I belive that if every one had a gun in this country, the shootings would go way down, i mean, when these people go into public places and open fire, they knows that more than likely no one else has a gun, but i'd bet that if they knew everyone else had a gun, they would think twice about it because they would maybe shoot one or two people before being shot....
-this is true but, there are also people dumb enough to be trigger-happy, If we all have guns the police would be "toothless" imagine if everyone, everywhere has a gun more of it would fall into the wrong hands.
-school shootings will be at an all time high. everyone has them, then everyone would form their cliques, strength in numbers, can you imagine having a gunfight instead of a food fight?
I have a gun, do you? (HAHA, Irony)

I think if more people had guns, then more idiots would start shooting. It's too easy to get mad and pull the trigger. Can you imagine what road rage would be? I live in a part of the country where a lot of folks are armed and a lot of folks get shot on a regular basis. I understand in England even the police don't have guns and there are very few shootings. Serial killers would just find a different way to slaughter innocents-like the man that got up in the tower at one university and opened fire. Everyone could have had guns and no one would have gotten him easily.

If everyone had a gun I believe the shootings would go way up - a lot of the people "out there" are undiagnosed mentally ill persons that would be dangerous to themselves and/or others with a firearm. Not everyone should have a gun - even the NRA agrees with this statement - they made it a point to say so after the Virginia Tech tragedy.

You are showing flawed logic because back in the late 1800's in the western United States a much larger portion of the population carried fire arms regularly. And there was not as many shootings where single individuals were killing large amounts of people but, there were a lot more frequent shootings and a lot more casualties because of gun violence.

The United States has 90 guns for every 100 citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world, U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies. About 4.5 million of the 8 million new guns manufactured worldwide each year are purchased in the United States, India had the world's second-largest civilian gun arsenal, with an estimated 46 million firearms outside law enforcement and the military, though this represented just four guns per 100 people there. China, ranked third with 40 million privately held guns, had 3 firearms per 100 people. Germany, France, Pakistan, Mexico, Brazil and Russia were next in the ranking of country's overall civilian gun arsenals. On a per-capita basis, Yemen had the second most heavily armed citizenry behind the United States, with 61 guns per 100 people, followed by Finland with 56, Switzerland with 46, Iraq with 39 and Serbia with 38. France, Canada, Sweden, Austria and Germany were next, each with about 30 guns per 100 people, while many poorer countries often associated with violence ranked much lower. Nigeria, for instance, had just one gun per 100 people.
The report, which relied on government data, surveys and media reports to estimate the size of world arsenals, estimated there were 650 million civilian firearms worldwide, and 225 million held by law enforcement and military forces.Only about 12 percent of civilian weapons are thought to be registered with
yet still their are people dieing of shootings and crimes beeing commited daily ...... in order for shootings to be way down the society needs to be just and honest , also the people who own guys need to be the responsible kind. punishments for criminals should be way much harder so that people think twice before doing something wrong

No I have a different opinion than you. Not saying that yours or mine is right but here is my theory. I think that if everyone had a gun there would be a lot more deaths. Everyone has one, so that would include children too. Children are usually the ones to cause accidental deaths, so there goes half the population right there, everyone with a baby or child would have to worry. I think accidental shouldnt would be all over. I know I dont know how to shoot a gun properly, Id be afraid Id shoot someone or my self by accident!! Then also, I feel death rates would go up because people that may want to cause trouble may not have access to a gun, but if they were readily provided with one, whats stopping them from commiting a crime now that they have the gun they couldnt get before?(especially if they wanted to die anyway, they wouldnt care if they got killed by another persons gun).Sp yeah, thats my thoughts on it.

Yes it is conceptually amusing to consider the prospect of each and every one of us having a gun. But let's be rational here. People aren't careful with their cars! If we can't even trust people not to drunk drive imagine what drunk shootings would be like. Yes, everyone has a gun. So they could return fire. Granted given the marksmanship and level of calm of the average dipshit in that situation they'd most likley shoot themselves or some other innocent. More headaches for everyone.

No disrespect, but...
2002, Appalachian School of Law -- Gunman opens fire with a handgun, killing three. Two students to their cars, fetch their personal firearms and subdue the shooter.
2007, Virginia Tech -- Gunman opens fire with two handguns, killing 32 and then himself. No other guns are present. The shooter isn't subdued until his suicide.
I can't tell you how many times I'd wondered what would have happened if those two Appalachian School of Law students were at Virginia Tech that day. What a tragedy...

I think if everyone had a gun there would be a lot more killers...one of the issues that makes me more of a moderate than a right winger, when the Constitution of the USA was written the world was a more barbaric place and the need to bear arms was more necessary. Today we need lawn mowers and hammers as tools not guns.
One other point...when have you ever heard of some one stopping a shooter because they had a gun??
Just what we need to do..have old west style shoot outs..that well show them!!
Please ...that's really all a fantasy

well, that would make sense. People wouldn't openly open fire knowing that everyone else has a weopon. But one thing's for sure, if N Korea storm onto the San Francisco beach, they wouldn't last 10 minutes against the first block
