One day a worker got killed on the job. Two of his co-workers were sent to break the news to his wife. On the way to their co-worker's house they were discussing how to break it to the wife that her husband had just been killed.

John: "Now, when we get to Art's house we have to be very sensitive and break it gently to his wife that her husband is dead."

Lou: "Yeah, you'd better let me handle it. I'm always very sensitive in these cases."

John: "well, okay, if you think you can be sensitive."

They get to Art's home, knock on the door, and Mrs. Art answers it. As agreed upon, Lou does the talking...

Lou: "Mrs Art? I'm sorry m'am, we've got some bad news. There's been a terrible accident and I'm afraid your husband..."

Mrs. Art: "oh my gosh, I'm not a widow, am I?"

Lou: "the hell you aint!!"

Never, ever, ever do the whole "good news first then bad" thing.
It will just get the person all happy and make them crash down harder.
