I wanted to know if it is possible to start an acting CAREER in your 30's? I've always heard this thing about age, but I've noticed many older faces in the acting business, who may not be movie stars, but are actually making a living out of it.
Anything is possible with hard work and persistence. So what kind of route would you suggest for anyone who's interested in starting at a later age? Really, what are the odds in even getting noticed?
Is it all, really driven by youth instead of great talent? Yes, there are some young great talents out there.
I have a place to live in N.Y.C, and have considered moving back there, and just going after this dream I've had since birth. It's just in my system.
Or is L.A. the better option, assuming, I don't have a place there?

Okay guys, I love your answers but I'm really serious. If I die, and I didn't at least give it a try. I'll live in my afterlife to regret it. If I live to be an old old lady, and didn't go after my dreams, that would be so bitter.
How does one really prepare themselves. Some great actors, never went to acting school. So Is It Luck????

Having movie deals and living in LA is very different than being an actor in NYC. Stage and screen are very different. If your dream is NYC, then go for it. As a stage actor you will not get the same size fan base as an film actor, but you need to decide if you really want to act or just the fame of being a movie star.
Your 30's is not too late to start acting. If you have talent and you want it go for it. I was 38 when I returned to the theatre [13 years after college]. My dream was to be a working actor, I got it. My first auditon gave me a small role. I've worked steady for the last 10 years on various stages in San Francisco. I had a day job for many years, now here I am, almost 50 and am making my living from performing.
If you can dream it, you can do it.
Break many legs.

Are you starting from scratch? Any training?
You could get in a legitimate acting program or some good classes while still holding a job in NY. You would be furthering your career aspirations while still making a living. Having a place in NY is certainly an advantage.
Although 30ish isn't old, in the industry it is considered older.
Your challenge is that you will be up for the types of roles that are played by actors who have been working for 15 years.
Good luck whatever you decide.

It's never too late. My acting teacher wrote the preface to my book. Among other things, she talks about how people who start out later in life are usually more mature and focused and know what they want. They also know have had some success in other areas of life and know what it takes to be successful also as an actor, i.e. dedication, hard work, etc. She also said that many younger people have an illusion that it will be easy if they can just "get discovered" and get to the know some people.
Anyway, if you want to learn more about here and here acting studio in NY, go to the web link I will give you here below and see my story about how I studied with her and the classes I have taken and continue to take there. Once you are at the site, go to the "Acting Classes" link on the menu.
Then, with regard to the NY or LA dilemma, I created a page around an interview I did with Paul Michael in NY. He has many years of experience as an actor and director and is now the director of a company/school called The Network NYC. It's a place to go to meet casting directors and agents. I asked him a few questions about whether it's best to go to NY or LA? You will see his answers here: http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/acting_in_new_york.html
Good luck!
Tony

I got my first professional job at age 40, Paul Ford was 50, so it is not too late. I actually think it is easier for a middle aged actor to get work than a young adult. If you have a way to support yourself, then go for it. But like the guy says, it would be better to start in a non union state, (a right to work state, that is and I am checking this with SAG). I have a student in England who is in acting school at age 35 working to become an actress. I suggest that you read my profile and write to me at my aol address for more info. I am a retired actor who helps people become actors for free.

no, I started in little theater at 51 and have been wildly successful . Of course, I don't get paid, but I have a ball and everyone enjoys my roles.
Depends on what career means to you.
I am happy where I am, but would probably be rejected in Hollywood and NYC stage because I have zero training.

Morgan Freeman didn't start serious acting work until he was well over 30 and didn't come to prominence until he was in his late 40's
