Do I get reflux? Yes.

What affects me the most? I have very few clues as to the triggers. Dry sour French bread with roast beef sometimes does it. Drinking wine sometimes triggers a reflux cycle. But for the most part, I'm pretty sure it just happens, no matter what I eat. Once I feel the symptoms, I start taking a course of medication.

What do I take for it? Prilosec OTC (no prescription needed) for 2 weeks.

According to the ads for Nexium, it is supposed to heal the damage to the digestive tract lining caused by esophageal reflux, or in simple terms, caused by stomach acid. So Nexium might also be worth trying. I have never asked my doctor about Nexium or about mixing the two, so I don't know if that's a good idea. But Prilosec, according to my gastroenterologist, "is the best thing we have right now for acid reflux disaese."

Sammi,
Fats used to kill me. It would burn like the dickens, and take half a day to stop making me cough and burn. I had my gall bladder out and that calmed it down 95%. I still have to avoid fats, but now I take Nexium once a day and no problem.

Rice, especially white rice, causes my throat to close off and my esophogus to knot up. It feels like I swallowed an enormous rock. The Nexium helps with that, too.

Another painful trigger is ice water after hot food.

Yes I do but I take prescription pills once a day that fix it.

Usually acidic foods trigger my reflux.

I have it bad, I can be throwing up for days if it gets bad. Mostly spicy foods and eating before I go to bed, or if I forget to take my medicine. I have to wait at least 5 or 6 hours after I eat before I can lie down. Otherwise I have to sleep in a chair. I take Nexium, great stuff. If I take it regularly and don't eat too late I usually don't have a problem.

im 10% disabled from it, so says the United States Government. Nothing in particular affects me the most. Its so random at this stage. I usually take the meds i have (which dont work) or drink tons of ice cold water, juice, or whatever is handy.

No, but try cabbage juice and elevate the head of your bed 20-30 degrees, dont eat three hours prior to lying down. Pepcid is OTC now. My grandmother used to swear by sleeping with a cold wet washcloth on her stomach.

yes, a bit. Mainly things that are fatty or greasy affect me more than anything (chips, fatty meats, sometimes pizza), especially if I eat it after about 6 p.m. or so. I use Tums to help me, though sometimes it takes quite a few to help.
