I can't stand that people try to be so unique and different when naming their children. That's not to say that people should all name their kids Aidan, Braeden, Riley, Madison, etc. Those names are tooooo trendy. I'm just wondering why people don't go with nice, normal, real names. I feel bad for the kids that have to grow up with these crazy names.

I totally agree with you. People who think they're being unique by butchering the spelling of a name or making a terrible name up are wrong...it usually ends up looking stupid and uneducated, and I'd hate to be stuck with some of those names I've heard suggested. I have a very common name, and while I've often complained about it, I'm thankful my mom didn't name me something weird like "Ce'Quin" (that was at the doctors office today). I understand not wanting yoru child to have a super common name, but there are plenty of really great names that are normal and real and spelled properly that aren't common (Like the Braeden's, Madison's and Hannah's). I can't wait until people stop with this stupidity.

EDIT: Many people have answered that parents want their child to be unique so they give them a "different" name...when are people going to realize that the name doesn't make the person unique, it's the PERSON (and their unique personality) that makes them unique.

How many times I have groaned at the stupidity of people when I read the birth announcements in the paper or when I was a relief teacher and each kindergarten I'd go to would have at least 2 poor kids with really weird names. What are people thinking??!! Obviously they are deluded in thinking they are helping the child to be unique. While you would rather they didn't have 10 other classmates with the same name but I'm sorry that is just reality on a planet of millions! I'm not horrified when I meet others with the same name as me - more horrified at the ridiculous names I am seeing these days! Think how little Phoenix, Zebedee, Madasyn or La'Teeshia (I made that up) will feel constantly having to explain the origins or spelling of their name. Normal, classic good names can be given and then shortened, or nicknames chosen to suit - it is simply unnecessary and inconsiderate to give strange names to children. Parents who have done this can defend the uniqueness of their child all they want but I agree with another answer here - it is not the name that makes the child unique, it is the personality!

Well, what do you mean by crazy names? If you mean completely made up, like I don't know, Nevaeh for instance then yes I agree it is a bit much and I cannot stand that name. Besides it isn't even unique anymore. However, if you're talking names that are uncommon in one country, but popular in another- that's not so bad. I like the name Irelynn, which is popular in Ireland and I know a few girls named that here in the U.S. It is very uncommon, but not exactly crazy.

EDIT: My neighbor friend wants to name her boy Gideon. Now I think it is a bad idea and some would find it crazy, but in all actuality, it is a name- a biblical name.

All honesty, I don't see anything wrong with the names that you listed and those names in no way are unique to me. I hear those names everyday I think! I wanted my son's name to be different and stand out. I named him Noah Reed. I love it and wouldn't have it anyother way. Yes, there are some pretty weird and ugly names out there that people name their kids to so that they can be unique and different. I was a sub and one of the kids names at the campus I worked at was named Precious. Yuck.
For a girl I have always loved the name Roe. But apparently, it means fish eggs so that went out the window. LOL :)

Some people do go with "normal" names. I think alot of people just have different opinons. I like names that are kind of different but nothing totally made up sounding. I also like really classic names that some people probably dont like and think are to popular....my sons name is Michael, and I really like the name and I know, there are sooooo many Michaels. But then my daughters name is Skyler and I love the name and am glad we named her that, I just LOVE it. Some people think it is a boy name and I personally would never name a boy Skyler, to me it just sounds girly. I wouldnt call a boy "Sky" for short. Just my thoughts.....

I agree, but I'd be a whole lot more upset if my parents named me Jayden, or Addison (or one of there many, many variations!) than if I were named River or Tallulah. Im sick of all the Michaels, and I'm also sick of those disgusting trendy names. I think the important thing is to chose wisely, and if someone tells you it truly SUCKS then listen, lol. After all even the "nice, normal" Jason can turn into the attrocious "Jaysyn"

I guess it depends on what you consider crazy and real. I don't see anything wrong with Aiden, Braeden, Riley or Madison. I wouldn't choose them for my kids, but I think it could be worse. I knew a couple that named their son Doctor. Now that's crazy!

In my family, the kids have Irish first names and Japanese middle names. They usually use their middle names when in Japan (Easier for people to pronounce). However there names are not unusual in either country.
I agree that some parents are naming their kids to prove how trendy they are ...:We're not going to be like our parents!" Kind of in your face thing. I would not mind, if it was not for the fact that some of these names are impossible to guess how to spell...and lead to easy mistakes and possible frustration later in the kids life...
But that is the way of the world now..."Look at me! My kid is special!" Your kid is special....to you, But your kid also has to fit in...and the trendy name does not help them.

Because ignorant and less intelligent people have delusions that they're being "creative" and "sophisticated" when in reality they're just being trashy.

Feel bad for the kids because they have to grow up with those names AND the parents who named them that!

As for the trendy names... well, some people are just susceptible to fads.

As a teacher I can tell you this whole "freaky name" thing is awful... especially the random mispellings...
