If this law existed, it would mean that no man could be outside the fitting room, waiting for his wife to try on clothes, and having to deal with her asking for his opinion!
Trust me, every married man would be using this law to get out of ever having to deal with that!!!!
The woman was obviously out of line, and if she files a complaint (and I do not know who she would file it with) she will be laughed at!!
You can not ban one sex from any area that is not a rest room or fitting room!

I sincerely doubt it. If the women's changing area is a large room, with no individual stalls and all the women change there (it is true, Esprit outlet used to be this way), there may be an issue if the man was in a position where he could see into the room.
However, almost every changing room consists of individual stalls, and in many stores the changing areas are not separated, so a man might be in a stall next to a women and there are male and female employees working there. And many women's changing areas have a bench or chair right outside for male guests waiting for their wives or daughters.

No law that I know of for a man to be sitting near a woman's fitting room.
Heck - how many men have you seen sitting in the chairs outside the fitting room while their wives/daughters/girlfriends try on stuff. The really good men also hold the ladies purse while waiting.
That lady is off her rocker.

Most likely not, depending on if your city or state has weird laws on this subject. the only illegal thing would be if a man entered a fitting room while a woman was changing

She has the right to be misinformed.
If there IS a complaint filed, store management must post a sign to that effect in the area...
And - is it then illegal for women to be in the Men's area ?

I've never heard of one, which it doesn't make much sense since a lot of fitting rooms for both genders are right next to each other.

Not to my knowledge and I doubt it seriously. If you really want to you can find out by looking at your city ordinances, probably located on your city's website and also at your state's laws. Most laws you can find by googling your state's name plus "statutes" or "code".
