After six years of neo-con rule, someone has to drag the US out of the sewer and hose it down. If it takes a liberal to do it, then so be it.

You could say the same about Republicans: "Why Are America's Republicans Having Such A Hard Time Accepting The Fact That They Have Been Overtaken By Libs?"
It's true. The biggest hoax in America is that there are more than a dozen or so conservative Republicans in Washington. George Liberal Bush certainly isn't - domestic spending has increased more than it did under Clinton.
Speaking of Clinton...Republicans need to get over the fact that Clinton is a liar. Everyone knows it. What about Republicans, though. In 1994, Newt Gingrich, John Boehner, et al. swept into power promising that a new breeze was blowing through Washington, the Constitutional limits of the Federal government would be restored, spending would be slashed radically, the tax code would be revised and we would have a less onerous and burdensome system...It was all garbage!!! The lied!!! The Republican Congress, with the help of our Republican President, out-performed liberals in liberalism.
Everyone knew that Clinton was a liar and a snake so it wasn't suprising that he turned-out to be a liar and a snake. Republicans, on the other hand, are still in denial that they have been used. Republicans remind me of certain high school girls the day after prom: "But he said he cared about me...he promised me..."
If you are a Republican, you have been sucker-punched by your own party and you don't even know it.

Democrats used to be mainly in the south, and were predominantly conservative. Republicans used to be mainly in the north, and were predominantly liberal.
Both groups have become more polarized over the many decades, so I have to agree with your statement.
However, why aren't conservatives aware of how liberal they are becoming? Ex. Fiscal irresponsibility, raising the role of government to unheard of levels, spying on the people, not taking responsibility for their actions even though they are supposedly the "Party of Accountability"... need I say more?

They would wonder how long you have been off the farm or if you took the short bus to school. Have the conservatives taken over the Republican party? Stupid question. If you profess anything else as a Republican you will be marginalized or set upon by the pack.

FDR and JFK would be far more alarmed by the likes of George W. Bush and the far right wingers in the GOP running the country.
