I had this done last Halloween...and it was one of the best things I've ever had done!! I sleep better, don't snore, my voice isn't as "nasal," and I have finally rid myself of the countless sinus problems I had most of my life!!
Here's a little of what to expect...both from my personal and professional experience:
1. You'll be completely sedated during the surgery, so you won't feel a thing. Honestly, my nose was sore for about two days, and that was it. I will also mention that I have NO tolerance for pain whatsoever...and all I had to take was a few Advil, and I was good to go.
2. You will have packing in your nose for several weeks. This will drive you insane...but it's 100% internal. You won't be able to see it from the outside. Bad news is, won't be able to breathe out your nose AT ALL...even if you try, there's going to be so much cotton jammed up in there, it's physically impossible. You will need to sleep as propped-up as possible for the first few days, just to help with drainage. The biggest problem that I had was my mouth drying out from only being able to breathe that way. Here's what you need to buy to keep this from happening to you (especially since the air is so dry and cold right now): A humidifier (preferably cold-mist), Oasis Mouth-Moistening Spray and/or mouthwash (they have glycerine that helps to keep your mouth moist longer...it was a life-saver for me!). Run the humidifier as much as possible, and use the Oasis as much as you need. Some drugstores don't carry Oasis, but I know that CVS has it. Ask the pharmacist for glycerine mouthwash...they may have a substitute.
3. You will have to wear a "drip pad" under your nose for about two weeks. Even with the packing, you will notice some bleeding and drainage...but not much. The drip pad is just a doubled-over small piece of gauze that you'll tape under your nose. You'll need to change it as it gets saturated....around 6-10 times a day to start. Go out now and get yourself some Transpore tape (3M makes it...it's more gentle to the skin than paper tape) and a box each of 2x2 and 4x4 gauze pads. They will give you some after the surgery, but you'll need more. Trust me.
3. Also, go get yourself some saline nasal spray...NOT Afrin or any kind of a decongestant spray...just simple saline. You will need to irrigate (spray out) your nose with it several times a day to dislodge clots and keep the tissues moist. It may burn a tad for about 10 seconds just for a day or two, but the salt water will not only flush the nostrils out, it also aids in the healing process.
4. Be prepared for when you have to follow up with your ENT to have the packing taken out. I had NO IDEA just how much junk was out there until they pulled it out!! They'll spray some numbing medicine up your nose so it doesn't hurt, but it still feels like they're pulling your brains out!! It kinda scared me at first, so I wanted to make sure you knew about it.
Short story long, it's a VERY simple procedure...and you will be SO HAPPY you did it once you are all healed up, which won't seem like long at all. Yeah, you may get some strange looks with that drip pad...but it's worth every bit of it. Just remember your shopping list:
* Cool mist humidifier
* Saline Nasal Spray
* Oasis Mouthwash and/or Mouth Spray
* A box each of 4x4 and 2x2 gauze pads (non-stick)
* Transpore tape
I know having surgery is a scary thing...but this is a walk in the park...and you have NO IDEA how good you will feel afterwards!!
Best of luck and happy healing!!

Had this done several years ago in the service by a doctor who needed practice, The petition which separates the passages of the nose is bent or has grown so that the passages do not function as they should. The doctor removes the growth or part of the crooked partition so as to open the nasalpassages, Once the swelling goes down and packing is removed you will be pleased that you had the procedure.

Well, I think that might work, but only if you have a way of holding it up for a long time. And your parents might get mad, plus your gf wont be able to kiss you, and you will have a hard time drinking and eating. I changed my mind. DONT DO IT
