Hey guys, I'm currently halfway through sophmore year in high school and im getting nervous of this college thing. Currently my GPA is about 2.9. What would you need on the ACT and additional positives on an application to get there? thanks

If you have a sub-3.0 GPA, you'll need an above average ACT. So, you'll need an ACT of over 25. UIC is becoming harder to come to. The averages have been slowly creeping up. The average high school rank was in the top 24th percentile and an ACT score of 24. They have Fall 2006's information still posted on the admission site, they have announced the Fall 2007's entry class information. http://www.uic.edu/depts/oar/undergrad/freshman.html

UIC isn't extraordinarily hard to get into. (I know. I go there) You'd need around a 24-25 minimum ACT score to get in. I would also suggest joining some clubs so that you have a long list of extracurriculars on your application. That will definitely help make up for your "somewhat lower" GPA. Also, you're only a sophomore! If you turn things around, your GPA could raise a bit by the end of junior year.

I think you could get in but you want to get your gpa over 3. I think you need at least a 23 but your only a sophmore so I think you have a good chance of getting in. It also helps if you have extra curricular activities.

You better raise your GPA if you hope to even get into community college. 2.9 is not good. You would need a perfect score on the ACT with a GPA like yours. On your applications, put that you volunteer with handicap kids and work in a senior center. Then explain that your after school activities are the reason you have such a poor GPA. The admissions officer might feel sorry for you and let you in.
