Or will you be denied jobs, schools etc. because of your history?

Most information society needs is on a need-to-know basis. In other words, most impersonal social situations require only the information they are asking for. Such a psychological condition might prevent you from working for a governmental or law enforcement agency like the FBI or CIA, but most mainstream social institutions are more worried about someone going postal rather than someone slicing their own wrists.

As for being treated 'normal', that happens on a one-to-one basis: some people will treat you special, others wont. Most of it depends on the level of communication you have with a person. The more a person knows you, the more likely they are to understand and see you for something other than what you 'did', unless what you did is relevant to today.

I would feel sorry for someone that did that. The only person I actually know of that attempted suicide and lived was the mother of a friend of mine when I was around 10. Me and my mom would see her in the grocery and the scars on her wrists were very visible. The way she smiled and laughed you never would have known that she had done that. I figured something must have really made her unhappy. I would not think you would be denied anything you want because of a suicide attempt, the fact that you are living shows people you are a person willing to try.

Do you mean 'attempted suicide and survived'? or 'attempt suicide and survive'?
It makes a difference.

'Society' is also a load term. If you live in a city 'society' only knows what you tell them. If you live in a small community where everyone knows everyone's business - move!
You can create a life where people treat your 'normally' whatever that is for you.

The people around u would threat u differently. Doubt u'd be denied jobs or placings at schools but the people around u would start watching u're every move. Wondering so many thing but too afraid to ask. Some mite even talk behind u're back about u're attempt n come up with their own version of what really pushed u to do it. People are sickening, annoying and unforgiving. But i doubt u'd be denied a job just because u tried ti kill urself. Dat would be outrageous.

I may be mistaken, but I don't believe you have to disclose that information even if you have been instituionalized for it. If you do have to then I believe you get a chance to explain and if you can prove that the condition has passed (due to the aid of medication, therapy, etc) then I don't think you can be denied. As far as society goes, people don't have to know. Suicide attempts are probably more common than most people realize.

If the person whom attempted suicide never told any one, no one would ever know. Besides, when applying for jobs, you are not required to tell them if you have ever attempted suicide so I do believe that society would treat them the same as every one else.

Your medical history is no one's business but your own. If anyone insists on knowing your medical history you can sue them! They have laws protecting our medical information.

Know that for the most part, people want to like you and no one knows what happened. If you are worried about the people that do know, hang out with the ones who do not care and meet new friends too!

Best of Luck to You

I can't answer for society since society contains a lot of different people but I assure you that I will not look at you differently.
