well when I was a democrat- I believed everything that was told to me - of how the world was, Then i started learning about the world- travelling and finding other news sources - even others across the pond - that is when I began questioning all that heresay info and began looking for facts - I knew then that i was not a democrat- and that for a long time I was believing the lies - once I began thinking for myself - trusting my own judgement - got my life together became secure - i realised that I was a republican-
why:
- I enjoy life
- I don't believe that the sky is falling
- I believe we need to be responsible for ourselves and our own actions and not depend upon the government for everything.
Issues:
Republicans stick to their guns more often
I believe in strict interpretation of the Constitution
I hate taxes
I believe in a strong Military to protect our way of life
I don't know know who i'll vote for yet but my 2 favorites are Huccabe(mispelled) & Romney

I am a registered Republican. I feel as though I agree on almost every issue of the Republican Platform, though I really listen to the candidates and decide on issues. I guess I consider myself a true American ... someone who loves America and does not seek to destroy it. My ancestors fought (and some died for ) the liberties that so many take for granted today.
I think that I am voting for Fred Thompson.
Merry Christmas to you as well.

First off, I am an American. I am an American that believes in his nation and the reasons it was founded. I am grateful for our Founding Fathers, the Constitution & union they achieved as well as every man & woman who have sacraficed since to keep this great nation free and prosperous.
With that being said, my conviction, values and love for everything I cherish lead me to want what is best for my country, my family and of course, myself.
There are parts of our government that have gone astray just as there are many politicians on both sides of the isle that believe in nothing but what is best for themselves.
I will vote for those people that I feel best represent what I believe in. Currently the Republican platform is clearly more in tune with my values & beliefs than what the Democrats are putting forward. I don't always agree with everything that every Republican does but that does not mean that the message of the party is any less valid.
The current Democrat party & leadership thereof do not put forward ideas & values that match mine. They show little respect for the Constitution, state's rights, personal property, economic freedom, the Founding Fathers and many of the values this country was founded on. The push for big government and socialist ideals are dangerous for the nation and for my family.
As a loyal American that respects his country and its' foundation I choose to align myself with others that see life in a similar manner.
God Bless America

Two very important events in my life made me a Conservative and a Republican. Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan. Unlike many responders here I actually lived through both administrations. Jimmy Carter was about as Liberal as a President could hope to be. Those who were not there, have no idea what it was like. The Soviet Union was laughing at us and actually insulting us publicly. Unemployment was out of control, inflation was out of control the supply of gasoline was out of control.
The Shah of Iran was allowed to fall opening the door to the Ayatollah and Radical Fundamentalist Islam led terrorism. Our embassy personnel were taken hostage, the Panama Canal was given away. The nightly news programs featured a misery index tracking how unhappy the lives of Americans had become.
Then, there emerged the Governor of California. A staunch Conservative who was so likable and so charming he managed to get elected in one of the most Liberal states in the Union. He smiled and clearly explained that America's best days were still ahead of her.
I could not believe my ears. I thought this guy must be nuts. Everyday only brought worse news. What the heck was he talking about? Well, he was right.
In debates with Carter he was pleasant while Carter was dour. He was cheerful. He spoke of his pride in this country, he spoke of his great plans for our recovery. He spoke of the Soviet Union as an Evil Empire that we would eventually put an end to.
The man and his philosophy were like anti-venom for a snake bitten Country. After winning in the largest landslide in history he make good on his promises. He cut taxes and inflation dropped. Employment increased and not just minimum wage jobs either. These were real jobs. With real hope for a real future.
People began to be proud to be American again. College kids began to wear khaki pants and deck shoes to class while Engineering and business classes overflowed and liberal arts floundered.
The song that described a generation of young Conservatives was "The Future's So Bright, I've Gotta Wear Shades". There were recruiters on campus all over America recruiting even Juniors with good high paying jobs. There was more opportunity than qualified employees.
That was my epiphany. I have been a Ronald Reagan Conservative Republican ever since. For you see unlike many others here I have seen how bad things can get under the wrong leadership. I have seen how good things can be under the right leadership. I guess I am a Conservative Republican because I have seen the light.
I like Tancredo but he is not showing well. Of the top candidates only McCain and Huckabee are unacceptable because they are for amnesty. I like Romney and I like Thompson. But I will support whomever wins the nomination because the alternative is far worse. Been there, done that.
Merry Christmas!

I'm a republican because it makes sense to me to be a republican. I didn't even know I was one for a long time, but I always have republican views on issues. Plus, republicanism stands for what this country was founded on.
I'm voting for Mitt Romney in the '08 election because I think he'd do the best job. He seems like an all around decent guy and I really think he would be an excellent president.

Tax Cuts, Limiting Government Spending, opposition to Nafta and unfair trade relations with China that promotes the loss of Manufactoring capabilities at home and a loss of good paying jobs at home for American Workers, i believe we need to secure our borders by any means necessary.Unfortunately Many in my party no longer in policy or anything more than words support these positions anymore. I am Voting for Ron Paul.

I believe that America is fighting an ideological battle. There are certain core values in my life that I feel are best reflected in the Republican party. I still believe “in God we trust” and I don’t want that phrase taken out of our Pledge of Allegiance. I believe in a strong economy, in a strong national defense, and strong family values. I believe that a strong economy is built on putting money into the economy instead taking it away through high taxes to fund an ever-growing government.
I don’t believe that government should be involved in the minutia of American life such as local education, private health care, and whether or not I can use my cell phone while filling my car up with gas.
I believe that there is a real threat in the Middle East against America and world freedom. I believe that is we pull out of Iraq we will open ourselves up to another major attack on US soil. I am married with kids. I feel safer having Rudy Giuliani or Mitt Romney as President who believe in finishing the war and using tough interrogation techniques if needed, than having Hillary Clinton or Barak Obama (although I like him) demanding the withdrawal of our troops.
I believe that marriage should be defined as between a man and a woman. I oppose abortion in most instances. And I don’t believe that moral relativism, a denial of a supreme being, or an absolute trust in science will take America in the direction of greater freedom. When I sit down and reflect on why I’m a Republican, it’s because I agree with conservative values. A strong economy, a strong national defense, and strong families. Thanks for the question. It was nice to reflect why I align myself with the Republican party.
I would vote for Giuliani or Romney for the Republican President. I think that Giuliani is a solid candidate who will be strong with the economy and national defense. I believe that Romney will bring strong family values to America and see Iraq through. He's also an amazing executive who knows how to run a strong economy.

It's nice to finally find a question that isn't a smear campaign. Thanks for asking!
I'm a republican because that is how our country was founded. I believe in a strong military, working for what you get, less taxes, less government assistance (too many people abuse it), strong family values, a solid education system, freedom, the right to bear arms, and God. I don't believe the government has the right to tell me how to raise my kids or what words I can and can't say. Conservatives are concerned with what is best for our country, liberals are concerned with what is best for them.
As for who I'll vote for, haven't decided yet. I like Rudy, but I find myself gaining respect for Romney.
Merry Christmas!

The libs omitted the popular public outcry over their "well being plan" and refused to take heed to innovations by technique of the republicans. First sparkling up the topics which exist now!

I am a republican because I actually believe corporations, the military industrial complex,CEO's,and Oil don't control America.I believe the people of America do.I believe that it was better to be safe than sorry in Iraq, and I believe that people need to take more responsibility for themselves instead of letting bureaucrats do this for them.
