The purpose of the Constitution is to limit the power of the Federal Government. Our founders saw the Federal Government as a necessary evil that they specifically wanted to keep in check. In fact only those duties specifically granted to the Federal Government were to be done by the Federal Government. This is stated specifically. And any powers not specifically granted to the Federal Government by the Constitution are specifically do not belong to the Federal Government but to the State Governments and the People.

That is the only reason a Constitution was even written. Most countries do not have Constitutions. It does not grant any rights to the people, it only innumerate some of the rights the Founders wanted the Federal Government to specifically recognize. This Bill of Rights was only recognized rights the Declaration of Independence had already recognized.

Our rights come from the Creator and are not granted by the Constitution nor can they be rescinded by the Constitution or any other power on earth. These rights are unalienable.

To answer your question directly, it protects us from the Federal Government. No, there is no need to protect us from anyone else.

Merry Christmas!

The Constitution exists specifically to protect the rights of citizens from abube by the government. It charges the government to protect the citizens from "all enemies, foreign and domestic."

It does not to do more than that because that covers the list of potential "threats."
