So, I'm about 4 and a half months postpartum, and I still have not gotten a period, but today and yesterday I spotted, brown though (old blood) and only a tiny bit.
I do not breastfeed and pregnancy is not possible (single mom).

I got a birth control pill pack, which my doctor told me to take on the first day of my period.
I do want birth control, so should I take it now even though I don't have a serious period yet?
If I do, will it stop my period (if I were to get one)?

Also, I have not yet lost the excess 40 pounds of baby weight that I REALLY want to lose.
(I know, it's been 4 months, I should have by now but I haven't).
I know many people who gain weight while on the pill.
I do NOT want to gain more weight, I would rather lose it.. Haha.
So, is weight gain because the pill mocks pregnancy and therefore makes women more hungry, so they eat more? Or is it the actual chemicals that can make the women gain weight?

I know I should ask my doctor these questions, but

but they're simple questions so I figure I'd ask now anyway.

Please and thank you :)

I know this is probably not the right section but I got no replies elsewhere =(

As far as the baby weight, no...you should not have lost it all by now. It took you 9 months to get that way, and it will take you approximately 9 months to get back to being close to where you were. Your baby is only 4 months old, give it time.

Not everyone gains weight while on BC. I didn't. Weight gain can come from the hormones in the BC.

You can wait until you're sure that you're having a 'normal' period to start your BC, or you can take it now. It really doesn't make too much of a difference because your period will come on either way the week you take the placebo.

1) take the pill it will help you regulate your body
2) CHILL on the weight issue because it will take longer to lose the weight in a healthy manner especially if you want to keep it off. (Next time, if you want another babe, try breast feeding, the weight leaves faster.)
3) the pill works differently for everyone so there is no sure way to know if you will gain more weight. However drinking plenty of water will help keep the weight in control. And as you all ready know a balanced diet. *try planning meals in advance to keep you calories in check. You can go to mypyramidtracker.com and it will help you track calories give you the healthy estimate of you calorie intake to reach you goals for weight loss in addition to making sure you get the vitamins and minerals you need to keep you strong for your baby. Congrats and best wishes.

These are not simple questions, or you would not need to ask them. Check with your doctor.
