I totally agree. Its Christmas time. If you say 'Happy Holidays' it sounds like you are saying it for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Valentines Day, etc.

I don't think there is anything terribly wrong with it, but if the total stranger you are greeting is NOT a Christian and/or does not celebrate Chrismas (as in a Jehovah Witness) then the greeting will be meaningless.
Is there a particular reason that you feel compelled to wish total strangers a "Merry Christmas" ? Are you honestly trying to spread goodwill and cheer, or are you trying to prove a point ?
How would you feel if someone responded back to you, 'Well I don't celebrate Christmas, so I'll just have myself a blessed Solstice, a Happy Chanukuh (or whatever)" ? Would you still be pleasant to that person ?
Anyway, I WILL have a Happy Winter Solstice myself, and you have yourself a very merry Christmas, since that is the holiday that YOU celebrate.

First, not everyone in America celebrates Christmas. That is one thing that makes America so great is that everyone is free to celebrate what holidays they wish to celebrate. There is no law forbidding celebrating their own holidays as long as it is NOT pushed onto someone else.
Second, I see nothing wrong with saying Merry Christmas. Yes, there are many out there saying it is politically correct to say Happy Holidays if you are going to say anything at all, but I don't say that saying for that reason. I say Happy Holidays to say 'Merry Christmas' and 'Happy New Year' at the same time. This may make those who think it's politically correct happy, but I do not say it for that reason. They don't have to know that, though.

Because some clown decided about 2 years ago, it wasn't appropriate to wish all a "Merry Christmas". And there was a big "HOOP-LA" made about it. I wish all a Merry Christmas and no one has yet to tell me i can't say that, and the first one that does will get an ear full.
It gets really old when people, keep getting down on others for Stupid stuff. All the "So-Called" "Do's & Don'ts" get old, sure so many celerate the holidays different from others.
But if any one wants to wish a "HAPPY" what ever, would it kill other to just smile and wish them what ever they believe in back?
~Merry Christmas~

Nothing is wrong with it at all. And I don't think anyone you wish a Merry Christmas will mind. I'm not a Christian myself but it doesn't bother me for someone to wish me a Merry Christmas, not one bit.
But if you owned a department store, and you wanted to show that you value -everyone's- business, you might want your message to be a little more inclusive, that's all.

yet Christmas isn't the only holiday at that factor of three hundred and sixty 5 days. What ticks ME off is human beings asserting "Merry Christmas" for the duration of introduction. The Christmas season would not even initiate till the night of December twenty fourth.

You read my mind. This country was based on Christianity, and if people don't like hearing "Merry Christmas", then they can just ignore it.

Well, I guess people that don't celebrate Christmas would be a little cheesed off; other than that I don't see anything wrong with it.
