Do I have bad luck or what? Should I be really concerned? Could something really minor be causing it, or am I about to have to shell out a lot of money?

Is it ok to drive back and forth to work until I can have someone check it out? (Probably not until Tuesday)

The "check engine" light could be a thousand different things. If your car doesn't sound or feel any different..it should be fine for a few days. If you start noticing anything starting to go wrong or just feel differently, take it into work. My check engine light will randomly pop up from time to time but my car is in perfect shape. Take it to someone you trust so that you dont have to pay out your *** for something that doesnt really NEED to be fixed.

The check engine light can come on for anything from a loose gas cap to serious engine problems. That said check the fluids. If they are ok and the car performs well, it is probably something simple and it should not be a problem to drive your car. Take your car to an Autozone on similar parts store and they will check the code that the check engine light is refering too. Go from there.

If the check engine light came on it means that the cars computer has found something wrong with the normal running of the car. You need to have it checked out, it could be something as simple as just low on water or oil of something more radical. In any case have it check out as soon as you can.
If the car still runs fine and you have checked all the fluids and the altinator is working and charging the battery then is is probly ok to drive but be careful.

The check engine light is usually for emission control stuff. As long as the car doesn't feel different when you drive it, you can put it off a few days. Some auto parts places will even read the computer codes for free to give you some idea of what is going on.

I would drive it directly to the dealer and tell him to give you a break, 64 miles over warranty. I had the same thing happen on my transmission, I took it right back to the shop and they repaired it for free. With the check engine light, it normally needs to be reset.

You will be fine I am sure it is something minor. You would notice if it was something major. You may need a tune up or it could be an oxygen sensor which could be the problem. But it is in your best interest to get it looked at when you get the chance or the extra $

I t could be something simple or not. I would not use it until you get it checked. As they said it could be nothing but if it's something major continuing to drive the car will just cause it to get worse=money
