And no, it's not a bait question either!!!!!!!!!

It's simple, really. Is having the dot on the helmet REALLY necessary? Everyone knows that the QB and one player on D has the communication devices in their helmet, and it's been that way for several seasons now.

I don't see why they have to make this a point of emphasis when everyone knows what the deal is anyway. That, plus the fact of them looking a bit ugly on the colour schemes of some of the helmets.

What do you think? Should they be on the helmets at all, or not?

Okay, ENOUGH with the rugby, football crap!!!!!!!

Mel, would it surprise you to know that, in fact, I am NOT American? I just happen to like the sport, as well as rugby and football (the kicking version). Just stop with this xenophobic rubbish, okay?

Just answer the question in hand, or just f*** off elsewhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reason why they have it, is so they know there is only one communication helmet on the field.
Back when Vick used to play, he would line up as a RB while Schaub will line up as a QB, this caused a problem because how would they know that both of them didn't have a communication helmet at the same time?

So the rule is one communication helmet per offense is allowed on the field, the way they would control this, is by marking the communication helmet with a green dot.

Now the question is, why green?

There is only one player allowed to have the dot at a time. there was a situation last year where there were two QBs on the field and both had radios. Now if two QBs are on the field one of them must get a different helmet. The dot is to prevent teams from breaking the rule of one radio on the field at a time.

The green dots are there to readily identify, on the sidelines which helmets have the comms in them, there are no visually obvious differences from the outside of the helmet and there are several spares, in case of failure. Also the helmets must be easily identified on the field by the officials because there are rules limiting how may and who may wear them. So yes the green dots must be on the helmets.

That would be great then we could make even the dumbest players great, by having someone up in the box directing their every move.

Mel
It is funny that you think that. When collisions happen in "real" football the players are not running full speed at one another. Protection gear started getting worn to prevent deaths that were occurring. (something that NEVER happened in Rugby or Soccer)

FYI Rugby and Especially Soccer players Don't think that American Football players are p#ssies and if you think they are wimps maybe you should get on the field and get hit by one of them without pads on. (see ya in ICU stupid)

Maybe not. Everyone knows QB for different teams so.... I guess its just a power thing like a point guard being at the top of the key.

It's so it's easy to locate on the bench. They look for the one with the green dot and give it to the QB

personally, i don't think they should be on the helmets. however, the NFL will keep them because of questions like this. this forum is just more NFL publicity.
