First of all, you are lucky because the simpl things in life keep ou happy. No matter how hard I try, I still feel better with materialistic things, even though I am not a materialistic person. I am happy with the simple things in life, but materialistic things give me a boost of happiness. It is better to be happy knowing that you have everything you need, and you are living a life much better than lots of other people.

yes we are getting more materialitic with time and i don't like this way of getting blind,
in my opinion, the market in india is increasing abnormally only because the term 'materialism'. people don't actually need that much of resources but materialism make them to do it.
they see, they have something superior than others, but they don't realise that a true measure of a man's wealth is the things that can't be bought,
i'm a student, once i asked my friend that why he always keep himself either inside his room or outside home, i never saw him sitting with his parents, he not one there are many i have seen and the no. is badly increasing,
i advised him that if he wouldn't do so his parents would feel bad, which makes his life here on earth meaningless.
happyness is never related to money , as it seems to be.
happyness is in satisfaction which a feeling of mind.
so all that matters is in mind, fortunately every body has got brain, but some connect this to money and matter, but a few don't.
i am not against the people who supports materialism, untill and unless they don't harm anybody's feeling for their useless needs.

If we look at metro cities, Yes, what you say is correct. But even now the 'bulk' of Indians are in villages, so we cannot brand 'Indians'. We may say "Indian Metro Dwellers". The city life is driven at a mad pace by competition for survival, leaving behind all kinds of planning. The result(its cause) is not very hard to guess.

Right you are Sir! East are getting influenced by West and West is getting influenced by East. But in the process tree of East (especially India) is loosing it's roots, which s dangerous. Branches can spread everywhere, as long as roots are stable.

East Indians have always been obcessed with money and getting a head and they will tell you this themselves..
My employer (retail) has an east indian supplier who sat him down and said "the main difference is that you enjoy your life.. and all I can think about is making more money" and this is in fact very true of most east indians...

Not really. We still enjoy being with our families and friends. the huge opportunity that our economic growth offers can't be ignored. You have opportunity for all types of activities apart from work, in sports, holidaying, entertainment, etc.
Our youth have not lost their sense of balance yet. Maybe a few stray cases do not constitute a general malaise.
We need to be more positive about ourselves.

I'm not. (not Indian either) I still prefer the simple things in life, the smell of the rain, the color changing of the leaves and the laughter of my children. I also prefer to camp out every summer instead of going to some theme park. You can only loose your real happiness if you let it.

This is a bad influence of MNC employment, both earning partners, blindly aping western style.
Attending functions more to flaunt your status.
If your roots are strong, requirements are quite essential nature, India is still the best.
