I stuck a pin in a map with my eyes closed and here is where it landed, and so did I.
I was that fed up with a bad marriage and wanted a fresh start. I had money saved, so I stuck a pin in a map.
That was years ago and I have not regretted the location pinned even once.

Moved here when the kids were small, as housing was more affordable than the Bay Area where we were renting. Bought a house in this area, and have lived here ever since. House is paid for, but will have to put it up for sale in the spring, so I will have enough money to live on.Don't want to, but have to. Don't want to move back to the Bay Area as housing/renting is not affordable anymore. and various other reasons..Will probably move closer to my son. Going to miss everything about where I live now. Not too thrilled about living where they do. Smaller town, God has a warped sense of humor.

That's a tough question. I grew up around this area and I never wanted to come back. I never really moved too far away though. My house is part of my inheritance. My parents wanted to see us enjoy our inheritance while they are still around. I think they really had a hand in where we bought our house. It is a very good area with almost no crime and I live about 3 blocks from my sister and about 3 miles from my parents. My kids attended the same schools that I did and they even had some of the same teachers. My parents said that they chose this area/state because it was a good place to raise a family.

I was living in a duplex with my now ex boyfriend. I lost my only brother, after his funeral, both of my parents started failing. The company that I was working for went into total lay-off for 2 1/2 months. That gave me plenty of time to think about what I wanted to do.

During the lay-off, I found out that my boyfriend was cheating on me like there was no tomorrow with about 12 other women. We both were working for the same company. So I decided that since he obviously didn't like how good he was treated at home by me, I would go where I was more needed. I packed up everything that I owned while he was spending a week with one of his girlfriends. I moved to my parents place, got me this 8 X 30 travel trailer to live in. So now I help take care of them as they need me more than he did. I am here to stay.

My wife is from here. We bought this house in '83, I retired from the U.S. Navy in November of '85. Was offered a decent job and stayed. I'm on my 5th job since retiring. The longest was almost 7 years (the shortest was 6 weeks....bored outta my skull), and I've been at this one since '93. I liked the area, lots of things here and nearby, plus I can use my military retiree benefits, for what there are, without having to drive more than 50 miles like my father-in-law did. I like being near military bases and being still around the military. Although I was once offered a job that would require me to move to Taiwan, I have a good paying career that I enjoy in this area that not only gives me SOME security (especially now with my 14 years seniority) but I get to travel from time to time to different states and countries.
HOWEVER, our plans are to move to Oregon when I fully retire to be near our grand kids. Maybe my son will want to move back here first. Fat chance!

I've always lived by an ocean. Arlington VA as a kid , San Francisco, Los Angeles as a young adult. 27 years in Palm Beach/ Stuart FL area. Now north central Florida as the property was cheap and taxes are low . There is a lake 300 feet down the street, lot's of wildlife also.

My first husband, being a musician, moved us 13 times in 6 years. When my oldest daughter started school, and didn't do well because she was moved to three different schools in two years, I put my foot down and said no more. My girls are going to grow up with a stable life. We were here in the city I live in now, and I have been here ever since. He is long gone. Stability didn't work for him. But I enjoy my life here and don't plan to move anywhere else.

My husband was a banker and this was the next to the last place he was transferred..last place was San Francisco, but as the kids were in school and we liked the area, he commuted on the train 1 hour each way..And that was 45 years ago.

I sorta 'fell' into this place. Had to move as my place was up for sale and I didn't want to buy it...Started looking and in the meantime, decided I wanted to move out of DC and back to Northern Va. Was hankering for more nature filled surroundings and I love the state.

Daughter called me and told me of a place and I went to look at it; fell in love with it and here I am, robbing Peter to pay Paul to afford it too! LOL I live 3.8 mi from work and 20 minutes from both daughters....and my mom...but an hour from my son! :-(

Any place had to be better than what Washington DC had become 11 years ago.. I wanted to return to Florida, my partner wanted to try California..so a deal was struck..we go to California, if I didn't like it in 6 months, we would move to Florida...on the last day of that 6 months, I took a look around and realized I was living in Paradise, so here I am and hope to be able to afford to stay here until I die...I love souther California.
