VICKS VAPORUB...TRY IT, IT WORKS

Try this "grandmother's remedy". Feel better soon.

I wish I'd known this when my family was young during winter
colds and coughs. I am going to try it myself. Share with young parents.
Isn't life strange? When we had a lecture on Essential Oils,
they told us how the foot soles can absorb oils. Their example: Put garlic
on your feet and within 20 minutes you can 'taste' it.
Some of us have used Vicks Vaporub for years for everything
from chapped lips to sore toes and many body parts in between. But I've
never heard of this. And don't laugh, it works 100% of the time although
the scientists at the Canada Research council (who discovered it) aren't
sure why.
To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found
out personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet
at bedtime, then cover with socks. Even persistent, heavy, deep
coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of
relief.
Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even
very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely
soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly. I heard the head of the
Canada Research Council describe these findings on the part of their
scientists when they were investigating the effectiveness and usage of
prescription cough medicines in children as compared to alternative therapies like
acupressure.
Just happened to tune in A.M.Radio and picked up this guy
talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good due to
the chemical makeup of these strong drugs so, I listened. Using Vicks on the feet was a surprise finding and found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for
children at bedtime, in addition to have a soothing and calming
effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly. Lolly tried it on
herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough a few weeks
ago and it worked 100%! She said that it felt like a warm blanket had
enveloped her, coughing stopped in a few minutes and believe me, this was a
deep, incredibly annoying!) every few seconds uncontrollable cough, and
she slept cough-free for hours every night that she used it. If you have
grandchildren, pass it on. If you end up sick, try it yourself and you
will be absolutely amazed by the effect.

Oh, and your feet will love you too!

Boil real live thyme, a 3" clipping, in a cup of water and 2 Tbs. of honey. Let boil 3 - 5 minutes. Add lemon. Breathe and sip. Feel free to add Rum or Bourbon. The Thyme is de-clogging, if you will, the honey is antiseptic, kills bacteria, and the lemon just throws in a bit of vitamin C and cuts the "gunk" with it's "citrus-ness." Alcohol is an ingredient in all older cough medicines. Until recently the bottles said "doesn't contain alcohol" because it was expected to.
PLUS the best nose spay in the world is plain old salt water. If you are too lazy to make it, buy "Ocean" or another brand already mixed in a nice clean spray bottle. Non-addictive, in that it doesn't increase your need for it the way commercial nasal sprays , like "Afr in" do (your body learns to clog up without it). For babies, you make or buy drops and never use honey on little tykes, the honey may contain pollen which is an allergen.

The more you try to breathe out of your nostrils the more
stuffier the nostrils get. What I do is -If just one nostril is stuffy I
take a piece of toilet paper and make one end fit inside your
stuffy nostril, you might have to take it and double it to fit and have the other end of the toilet paper hang out a bit so it doesn't get stuck up there and it makes it easier to pull back out..Leave this in the stuffy nostril for awhile about 15 minutes to a half hour. This will take pressure off of the stuffy nostril
and make it become unstuffed. If both nostrils are stuffed up then do this same precedure to both nostrils and breath out of your mouth for 15 minutes to a half hour. The point is you need to take the pressure off the nostrils in this way so that the
swelling inside of the nose can have a chance to go down so you can breathe.

Have you tried a netti pot? It is really important to keep your nasal mucose moving and dry air plus allergy or a cold dries it up and makes it sticky. Then the germs that it catches (that is part of its job) don't get washed out and can cause a sinus infection or congestion. The netti pot is easy to use and not too spendy, around $7. I use mine in the morning and at night. More often if I am really stuffy. I also use vaporub on my lip or nose.

Same problem for me for very long time. Plus bad headaches. Went to an ENT and was told allergies out of control, severe deviated septum from a break years ago, meds aren't working for me either, will see my ENT again in January for hopefully more help. Hang in there, I feel for you. See an ENT first. You may need allergy shots like I am told I need.

My husband has that problem very often and believe it or not what works best for him is a hot shower and some saline drops. I actually use my daughter's you know the "Little Noses" brand. You can find it anywhere they sell children's cold medicine and the best part is it isn't medicine.

Salt and water mixture is great if you can sniff it into your nose. I use just table salt and a pinch between my fingers then sniff each side. It will loosen you sinuses if you can get it in there.
