CNN's Republican debate on November 28 opened with a full 35 minutes of the debate devoted to the issue of immigration. Washington Post columnist David Broder (11/15/07) recently referred to "illegal immigration" as one of two major "icebergs ahead for the Democrats" in the upcoming presidential race (ex-President Bill Clinton being the other one).

When asked to name their top priorities, the Iraq War still tops the list of issues for both Democrats and Republicans. "It's raised twice as often as the next-ranking issue, the economy," according to a recent USA Today/Gallup poll (11/30/07-12/1/07).

If an issue ranks #4, the country as a whole must consider it to be important. Both parties have various stands on it. Other important issues include: the war, crime, the economy, Medicare, the mortgage problem, global warming (man-made or not), abortion, family values, gay issues, censorship, what the Second Amendment means, our relationships with other countries, the cost of education, etc.

It depends where you live, and your experiences. For many people, it is a top priority. Nobody votes solely on one issue... most vote on the top 4 or 5, or what affects them the most. I don't care what polls say, its a major issue for me.

Because it is the illegal immigrants that are the most likely to compete for Republican jobs. Uneducated, unskilled, low wages, non union.

Because illegal immigrants have cost the US taxpayers TRILLIONS of dollars (if not more) since the government caved in and gave illegal aliens amnesty back in 1986.

Fear-mongering and race-bating are effective tools for demagogues I guess, what cracks me up is that all these supposed "christian" candidates do anything they can think of to not act the way "Jesus" instructs them.

Talking point to mobilize voters, that's all. No one intends to DO anything, they just want to have it to talk about.
