You definitely want to have a good basis on every instrument. To be a professional conductor (IE symphony orchestra) you'd have to get a strong degree in conducting to begin with. I'd suggest pursuing music education and be a school band/orchestra conductor, and move up out of schools one day if you'd like. Music ed majors learn most every instrument, so that might be the way to go.

First of all, I am in a band/orchestra.
Second of all, I play French Horn which is like the best instrument ever! Especially marching horns because concert horns are sort of dumb. I'm growing used to them by now I suppose however. Oh look at me rambling on about stuff you don't care about.
Anyway I guess my point is that I would have to be playing a French Horn, frankly because I don't feel like learning a whole new instrument at the moment.

Saxophone. Its seems like a fun instrument. Sounds awesome when it is played in a restroom (Supertramp's Logical Song). Bill Clinton likes to play one. A blaring whining saxophone. Stands out in a crowd.

I did play the flute in my school band back in the early 70's. That and especially the piano has always been a part of me.

When I took voice lessons in college, my voice teacher used to describe my voice as a "suave violin that's filled with emotion" so even though I love the sound of the piano, most of all, I think I'd be that violin...
