Can my history be viewed if I delete it and temporary folders? Someone told me that a clever IT can do it by the IP#, is this true? Is there any way to hide/delete everything?

So I don't get it...all of the information that I ever searched for is on the HDD and if I keep my comp indefinitely more and more wil accumulate? So there is no way to rid it of everything then?!

History remains in the index.dat files, even after it has been "deleted". Anyone with a small free software to decode these hex files into plain text. (SuperWinSpy)

The procedure is here:

Good luck and happy snooping ;-)

Your ISP will retain logs of your IP and what IP you communicate with plus the timestamp of these events.
These would only be available should someone present them with a subpoena for those records.

If you want to securely delete files from your harddrive you may want to invest in a tool like PGP which has a secure wipe function that can tick off automatically when you hit the del button on a file.

If you do not use a secure wiping tool then any file you "delete" is still resident on the harddrive (until another file overwrites that tiny 512K chunk of space.. which may never happen if you have a large harddrive)... all that happens when you "delete" (ie, the recycle bin) is a little bit on the file gets changed so that windows knows it is OK to write to that spot.. but it may never do so...

Isn't forensics kewl?

Good Luck

If you delete your history, the only place the data will remain is on your HDD. And it would take a forensic computer expert to strip off the data from your HDD. As to your IP, they are required to keep the data for "X", amount of years depending on what state or country that you reside in. And the only way for that data to be released by your IP is via a warrant issued from a judge. And that would only happen if you were to commit a crime on your pc.

To believe that your history remains only on your hard drive is incorrect. Your ISP may keep logs of sites you've visited.

Why do you need to hide everything?

Clearing your history should do it for most cases though.
