Are they like someone who embezzled money and try to cook the books and eventually pay it back ?

This terrific insight by "Dionisio R" : "NO! THE TYPICAL OFFICE PSYCHOPATH, IS MUCH MORE CUNNING.LETS SAY LIKE A SPIDER THEY KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THEY'RE ENVIRONMENT VERY WELL. AFTER ALL THEY DONT PUT IN ALL THAT TIME AND EFFORT INTO BUILDING THEY'RE WEBS TO STARVE TO DEATH, NO THEY ARE CERTAIN TO CATCH THEY'RE PREY.AND NEEDLESS TO SAY YOU KNOW THE REST."

They seem to be intelligent enough to thrive in the system without misbehaving. So why misbehave ?

Or has the office psychopath invariably "cooked the books" and are they trying to cover up and eventually fix the system ?

Is there a prevalence of office psychopaths in work areas such as "safety-critical software" where it would be possible to survive temporarily by "cooking the books", long enough perhaps to destroy an evidence trail ?

Still trying to figure them out? Ok, ok, lets break this down because you ALMOST connected the dots, REALLY close!!! It was right here that you ALMOST had it...

They seem to be intelligent enough to thrive in the system without misbehaving. So why misbehave ?

One of the biggest ways to getting to wisdom is knowing the RIGHT question to ask, AND answering it right, you almost had it, your getting wise!! You just weren't confident enough to answer it yourself.

Truth be told it is that choice that divides an office psychopath from lets say the office suck-up, or over-achieveor, its all about purpose. Usually when your ether the suck-up or over-achiever your social maniuplation (we all do this, its a matter of survival, you need to understand that.) is based around understanding that you NEED people to achieve, now the office psychopath is more cruel and much more cunning, he knows, due to office dynamics if he is going to play the game, he doesn't need to care about other people, its actually going to make his mission harder. See the other people have purposes that our socially driven, they need to be requinzed for their achievements by others at work. The office psycholpath, he can care less about you, your all part of the game and equally as expendable. So its this lack of need in you or anyone else that he feels that drives him to be who he is, the problem is that it's unnatural so you'll see the natural tendency to actually need peoples requintion to come out in odd behaviors ONLY to be stomped back down by the ego. So watch the dance! Trust its actually pure heck on him!!!!! Such is the truth of the human heart.....

Hey ffantasizing, the typical office psychopath is in it for more money, attention possibly from their supervisors or bosses, to climb that latter of success by knocking out the competition. It could be they just want a certain position and so the person who is in that position, is the main target. Someone who's main objective is to cook the books is a flat out criminal as far as I can tell, a criminal psychopath.
