I'm going from New York to Montreal on Jan. 7 to the 10th. This is the first time that I'll ever be riding Greyhound across the border. I just wanted to know, Is Greyhound on-time? The experience of doing the trip via greyhound? I believe that it's a one-day ride, so alot of reading material is store. So, is it worth it?

From the responses that I've gotten so far from everyone, it seems like Greyhound is really not the way to go but it seems pretty cheap. The problem with Greyhound is it unpredictability with a timetable. I'm leaving NY at 8:30 and they say I would get in at about 5, but who really knows? As for the first response, I really don't have a problem with reading on the bus, maybe I can catch up on some sleep. a huge maybe.

hi- I have travelled from Montreal-to New York myself at least four timesby Greyhound. Please make sure that you have the proper i.d. to pass the Canadian border- i.e. a passport issued from the USA. That is the most important thing. Bring some wipes incase you have to use the bathroom. The bathrooms are not known for their cleanliness, but apart from that, it is a long trip. Depends on how long you are at customs, and that has nothing at all to do with the bus trip itself, but it may take some time.Greyhound has no control over that.
Have a good trip!

If I recall, that's a fairly scenic ride, you go along the eastern side of the Adirondacks.
In my experience, Greyhound is more or less on time most of the time, but its not unheard of for there to be delays. In general Greyhound in the NE seems to be relatively well-run, unlike say in the south.
Mainly if you're tall you might find the legroom a bit skimpy. And Greyhound passengers can sometimes be a bit on the down-and-out side, which can get kind of depressing. If you transfer, remember you have to transfer it yourself, and since the baggage handlers just toss everything out without making sure it goes to the right person, make sure you nab it and not the some crazy hobo.
I personally would take the day bus as you'll see the scenery and its kind of hard to sleep on the bus.
It may not be the classiest form of travel, but it sure is cheap, and I personally don't mind it that bad.

First of all, can you read alright on a bus? Some people get car sick. Second, Greyhound is never never never never never never on time. Third, the overnight trip on Amtrak from NY's Penn Station to Montreal is a much more comfortable experience. I used Greyhound a lot in college and never had a positive experience.

Don't go by the Minuit but the buses are generally on time. Its a long ride but if you have music and some reading material its not a big issue. Honestly if you take the night bus you will really not feel it so much.
Surely don't expect too much from the toilet so avoid eating too much on the previous day. And make sure to have your passport or proper acceptable ID.
It does take time at border but they have separate lines for buses and the time table generally takes that average border crossing time in to account of their time table.

One never knows if a bus will be, on-time, there are many considerations, weather, bus departing late/early.
