tinned mushies are nice...
you can easily do them at home, it just takes time.
buy dried marrowfat peas, and boil them with bicarbonate of soda in teh water, (look for a recipie)
the trick is getting the water consistency right... too much is like pea soup, to little its like dried moon rock... (and as hard)
e me, and ill happily post you a packet of dried peas...well its christmas!

Hi i am from Manchester the home of Mushy peas lol,
The best way to get mushy peas is to buy peas in a can that have Processed on em , Garden peas are rubbush ,
all you do is put em in a pan and boil em, once boiled drain off any excess water and simmer for a few minutes or until the peas break down , this is done by stirring, they mush up easy , best with Brown sauce , or added to bacon or sausage its delicious. or you could have it with a pie , thats how we have it , add beef gravy to pie and taste good luck

You can either buy them canned, or frozen. If you buy them frozen add a pinch of bicarbonate of soda to give them a mushy texture.
Another way is to buy dried green peas and soak them overnight, then boil until cooked. Drain, add some bicarbonate of soda, and mush them up.
Or, use fresh peas, simmer, add bicarbonate of soda, mush up.
I like mushy peas a lot, and there are two types: traditional, or chip shop style which are smoother in taste. There is a variant called pease pudding made from yellow split peas, and has a heavier texture, but is good in curries and stews.
Mushy peas are sometimes sold as pea fritters.
I first came across them in Coalville, near Leicester, England.

actually - you need to use marrofat peas - big fat ones and not your common or garden variety you find in tins, freezers or pods.
buy some dried peas - green ones - big ones - marrowofat - then soak them overnight in cold water and then cook them with a toamato, a potato and some herbs for however long it takes for them to go soft and mushy - take out the tomoto and potato and herbs, pour away 2/3rds of what water you have left mash the tomato and potato together into a paste and stir back into to peas (on heat) season with a good knob of butter, salt and freshly milled black pepper and serve hot.
some people like to add mint

I believe you are talking about creamed peas. Just put in some milk and corn starch. A little butter. Easier if you mix the corn starch and milk in a jar first (then it won't lump up )

buy dried peas
put them to soak in hot water with 2 tea spoons of bi-carbonated soda.
leave over night
drain them
put in a pan with just enough water to cover them
bring to the boil then simmer till soft
roughly mash them
they are traditionly served mixed with mint sauce
.mint chopped finely mixed with malt vinegar
