Clarence "Cito" Gaston, in 71 or 72 he was the Padres only all star, after the Sunday game I waited for autographs, when he came out he had his hands full with his equipment for the All star game, he asked me to walk with him to his car and he would sign when he could unload. We stood at the trunk of his car and talked baseball for over half an hour, I was 14 or 15 at the time and even then, few players would give even a small portion of their time to the fans. If ever you chance to meet him, he is exceptionally knowledgable and very nice. A truly good baseball ambassador.

I idolize Tino Martinez and Lou Gehrig. My position has always been first base and watching Tino field at 1st during the 90's. To me, that was fine art. Along with the old footage of Lou Gehrig you see on yankeeography.
If I could be a baseball player, I would want to be a good ballplayer and a rolemodel, like they are.

Kind of surprising, but my idol is Moises Alou. I love Piazza, and what he did to New York. I love Robin Ventura. Those are my idols, but I didn't get to watch some of the greats play because I'm only 15.

Derek Jeter because he seems to always give 110% out on the field and he is a true Yankee. I couldn't see him in any other uniform. He seems to be a good person too. He is the 11th Yankee captain and his name on the captian list is beside many greats: Ruth, Gehrig, Munson, Nettles, Randolph, Guidry and Mattingly.

I wouldn't call them idols, but I always respected great players like Cal Ripken and Tony Gwynn. I doubt you'll see very many players stay with the same team their whole career anymore and these two greats did it without giving in to higher paychecks.
