Election after election I hear Republican candidates say they are pro-life.. And I talk to "christians" who say they'll only vote for a candidate who is pro-life..

But what have they done? They always talk about the issue and make it "mainstream". But I'm wondering why, after so many republican presidents... People still listen and continue to vote on it?

Should it even be an issue anymore?

Same goes for illegals and spending.. illegals still come and the debt rises anytime a republican gets onto the whitehouse..

Your question reminds me of the Democrats scare tactics..."If a Republican wins aborts will be made illegal", "If a Republican wins there will be no more Social Security in juts a couple of years", "If a Republican wins there will be a draft".

Oh well, thank you for the two points and for the reminder that we have a year of Democrat scare tactics and buying votes with crack to look forward to.

i'm a Republican yet i'm professional decision; i'm additionally professional loss of existence penalty yet i do no longer see the place it suits into the framework of this argument. Abortion is a ways down on my checklist of motives I vote for a candidate. I even have voted for a candidate that improve into professional existence with little or no hesitation because of the fact they supported the topics that i think of actual matter. i'm a Republican because of the fact i've got self belief that they have a extra powerful information of the 2d substitute, often choose decrease taxes, are far extra powerful with all nationwide protection subjects and have self belief in a extra constrained government. I comprehend that no longer all applicants help this type of time table thoroughly yet Republicans come lots nearer than the Dems. i'm no longer non secular yet I even have an information of Christian scholarship; might desire to you tell me particularly which tenant of Christianity the Republicans violate?

There are other variables than just having a republican president that factor in. Like a democratic congress that doesn't pass the legislation for the president to sign into law. Or ambitious activist judges that legislate from the bench and rule laws as unconstitutional. Either way, abortion is a non issue for me. I'm more concerned with a candidates overall views. Not with one issue.

They should forget about it, they lost the fight on this one, even if abortions are illegal, underground clinics will pop up, and there will still be abortions. I dont agree with abortions for those who had a one night stand, and dont want to take responsibilities for their actions, but in reality, making abortion illegal will just cause more problems.
As far as illegals and Republican presidents, republicans have controlled the whitehouse 28 out of the last 40 years, so their is really nothing to base your assumptions on.

The Republicans and their fundementalist followers have done and are doing somethings to ban abortion. Look at who they've placed on the Supreme Court. For years, they have been quietly and steadily eroding a woman's right to choose, little by little, state by state. It is already next to impossible for a poor woman to find a safe abortion in many states. It's back to the old coat-hanger abortions for some women.

Further, abortion rights is not really a single issue since forced pregnancy limits a woman's career choices, college opportunities, and financial well being, and also affects her health. Try being a single mother. Poverty is not a single issue for them.

And since when should unwanted pregnancy be the punishment for sex? Oooh, lucky baby to be so wanted.

There is a word for this type of issue. I am tired and can't remember the phrase at the moment but I can define it for you.
Some issues (abortion is one) are invoked to garner votes. Since they are very useful year after year for getting votes, resolving the actual issue is counter productive. If it is resolved than it can't be used in 4 years to get more votes. Now in fairness there are probably a few politicians who truly want to resolve this issue one way or another. But just as there are many advocates for both sides in our society, there are the same in congress. Which means strong legislation for either side is unlikely to pass because there is strong opposition as well.
What this issue becomes is a safe thing for a politician to make a stand about. They can't really solve it but making a stand gets them votes from one side or the other. Meanwhile the issue remains unsatisfactorily resolved to the voters which inspires them to support politicians to resolve it.

I call it a non-issue. Its something they are either not going to fix or don't want to fix but they talk about it every chance they get solely to rile up voters. Vote for a candidate based on their stand on abortion if you want to but don't hold your breath for results.

Lets see how about it`s a really touchy subject that has many sides.Me personally it`s not up to me to decide what a woman does with her body. As far as illegals go. Deport all of them back to where they came from. The republicans are just showing you they are nothing but spend and tax spend and tax....... Hmmm didnt the repubs say that about the dems ? Perhaps there confused. Talking heads we choose to believe. Not anymore for me.

No, it shouldn't be an issue... it's one of the biggest wedge issues trotted out to make people think the millionaire candidate has something in common with "joe sixpac". It's used to get poor people to vote for candidates who only serve the super-rich.
