Around 1.6 gallons is now standard. Some water conservation models can use only half that much.

Older models use much more water, some from decades ago use over 5 gallons per flush.

Somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of domestic water use is for toilets.

In old style toilets 4-6 liters per flush. the new efficient ones flush 1-2 liter. You can select to to flush a low amount of water for liquid waste and 2 liters for bigger problem

The gallons per flush number is misleading... The new 1.6 gallon (or lower) models don't flush properly. I remember when 1 flush was all it took, but now it takes 3 or 4 flushes to get everything down.
