if you were highly mobile as a kid, how do you answer the question "where are you from"?

i grew up in 8 places, 4 countries, so where am i from?

I have this same problem! I usually stumble on my words because I don't want to give them the long story and blah, blah, blah. I usually say, "here and there, I moved around a lot." I usually then tell them where I was born.

Well WHERE do you FEEL you are from? If you a were born, rasied, and had significant influences from one particular place THAT would be where I would feel I was from.

If you DO NOT feel an affinity for any PARTICULAR place then a fondness for the cultural signature of your experience is in order. (military, civil service, Peace Corp, Osama bin Laden's driver-WHATEVER) Military people do this all the time, hence the term "military brat".

You ARE what you feel so....start feeling a bit.

You have a range of options depending on how you want to break the ice.... "from all over", "from planet earth", you can say that you are international.

I would tell them something to the effect of "I was born in ------, but my family moved around alot and this is where we are now."

maybe...either the last country or place you've been or the country or place you originally came from...or the country or place you've stayed longest...your choice... : D

you should say were you were born, but then say that you traveled alot as a child.
