It might have eaten some rat poison from a neighbors house

I've seen rodents die like this after consuming "poison peanuts",treated with Thallium. Luckily this stuff is no longer sold, but perhaps there's some around if yours is an old house. The varmints would actually just stop in their tracks after eating one of those things. The things were dyed an ugly green color so humans wouldn't eat them,if you find something like this in your basement try to find a HAZ MAT disposal station in your area, the stuff remains toxic forever,(well almost).

1) It's a toy squirrel that looks realistic
2) It was stuffed/freeze-dried and left there by someone.
3) Theodore and Simon finally had it with his bossing them around and shot them with Theodore's new invention, The CIDR-G: The Chipmunk-Instant-Death-Ray Gun.

I presume the squirrel could have had a heart attack. Animals often have illnesses that are similar to people.
