you'll have to retake the course if it was a required one. an F looks bad on a transcript for sure. You'll have to explain it probably in a job interview...but I am a college professor myself and I have an F on my transcript.

You probably had several variables that led to your grade. It could be a teacher who didn't communicate, a book you didn't understand, concepts you didn't grasp--any number of things. I had a tough time with college algebra, too, so welcome to the club!
Now, for your options. It may be too late in this term to turn things around, but at least give it a try. The F will really pull down your overall grade point average, too, so please try to do better when you can. If you can re-take the class, do so. Try asking the teacher first, then, the dean of the math department. He or she could probably help you out--and don't forget your academic advisor.
If you might learn better in a self-paced program, see if there's an on-line class you could take. Ask for help or tutoring if you need it, too.
But to be honest, I think you stated your real problem by not being interested. You'll really have a tough hill to climb by not being interested enough to pass the class. It will only get worse the longer you postpone the passing grade. I used to work with a gentleman who was one class away from a technical associate's degree, which would have given him a much better paying job. His hurdle? You guessed it, college algebra. Do whatever you need to do, but the sooner you pass, the sooner you can be done with it, and the fewer explanations you'll need to make.
As for the explanation, don't bring it up unless someone asks. Then if they do, you can say something like "I just didn't get it the first time around, and I learned from my mistakes".
I wish you much success in whatever you do!

Can you graduate with an F on your transcript? You should figure that out first. You probably need to take the class again before you can graduate and look for a job. Failing Algebra will look very bad unless you are applying for a job as like a hairdresser or something.
You are getting an F because you don't want to learn it. If you change your attitude you'll be a lot better off.

You need to retake the class if it was required, if not, don't bother. It's a waste of money! Yea, it might look a little bad, but it's not the end of the world and no, you don't have to be a hairdresser! Hahaha.

diverse colleges have diverse rules. Mine left the decrease grade on the transcript (penn state) yet I easily have heard of others that have grade forgiveness, and nonetheless others which will customary the grades at the same time. communicate to your consultant.
