Yeah, that's right, we're terrified of it. That's why nobody gives birth anymore these days - we can't take the pain.

first id like to address the man who said no.
If your only birthing experience is that of coach to someone who chose to do an epidural or perhaps you've only heard it from someone who was that coach.
not everyone chooses to use drugs during childbirth.not every woman is willing to take the risk of side effects such as increased labor time ,increased possibility of needing a cesarean ,some studies say that it doubles the chance the baby will have to be pulled by forceps which can result in birth injury.and the possibility of a lower apgar score for the infant since the drugs do make their way into the bloodstream and to the infant decreasing oxygen supply.
statistics say 1/3 of all women giving birth (in America)choose an epidural ,that means that 2/3 of us choose to feel the pain of natural birth.
now that Im done ranting.
Ive had 3 children and a couple of weeks before the event I would become anxious about the pain,.this happened more with the 2nd and 3rd cause I knew what to expect.
but Id practice my breathing and relaxation exercises and it would go away.
the thing is the pain is bad but once I had my baby in my arms it was a thing of the past.no big deal compared to what I had in return.
peace ><>

I never actually was. The act of giving birth was relatively minor for me in comparison to the contractions I was feeling for hours before that. This is someone who had two babies without epidurals so I have a pretty good idea of how painful those can be. It's much worse for a first baby or if the baby is not in the correct position to be born. With my first, I had horrible back pain and the baby came out sunny side up.

I was scared before I had my first child. I was afraid that something would go wrong and either the child would pass or I would pass away. I was not worried about the pain personally. When I was pregnant with my second child I was more scared that something would happen to me and I would not be around to raise my children. Unless you have been through it, you really cannot know how scary it can be. For some women who do not have children they do have a legitimate concern. As humans we tend to fear the unknown, so it makes perfect sense that you would be worried since it is an experience that not only changes your life, but can have severe consequences to either the unborn child, or yourself.

I'd be a lot more afraid of the act of motherhood.
The pain of childbirth is temporary, but motherhood is forever.

its natural, but in the end, how could a beautiful baby girl or boy ever compare to the pain of birth? would you have a baby if you could?

edit : wow, the person who answered above me must know absolutely nothing. humans have the most painful childbirth of mammals. not only that but humans are the only ones who go into labor.
edit : funny how the person above me deleted their answer. now its a normal answer that makes sense.

I'll be honest it freaks me out. I have very low tolerance for pain, Hell I cry over a stubbed toe and it usually hurts for days with me.

So yeah, human popping out of the nether-regions, not looking forward to it, but I realize that billions have done it before me so it can't be that bad. Hopefully I'll get there in time for the drugs.

It hurts, I mean it's the worst pain in the world but tolerable. If women were so scared children wouldn't be here. I went through like a 8 hour labor without any drugs and I didn't die or yell and scream, and it was so hard because my baby was dead and dead babies don't help. But I got through it. I can do it again with no problem.

I'm terrified at the thought. Even worse, my mother had us all natural in the 80's, so now I feel like I should do it that way too. I want to have kids, and I plan on having 3, but that doesn't mean I'm not scared...I do look forward to being pregnant though...

Yes, women can be afraid of the pain and any possible complications, but that doesn't stop most of them from going through with it.

Ummm, I am just a tiny bit. Im due in July. The fact that my vag is weee small and a babys head is...well, lets just say much bigger, scares the crap out of me. But what can we do. I believe the initial fear is there, but it is a natural process and I can only hope that my fear is normal.
