I'm a little disappointed with the displays in my area at moment, I'm just hoping it's because they are running a little late in doing them
I am SO pleased you said that you will always carry on saying CHRISTMAS....me too!!!!, only yesterday I was told by my Daughter that the Schools will no longer be allowing OUR children to do Nativity Plays!!!!!! "Political Correctness"......it will UPSET others Religion....can you beleive that !!!!....to say I am upset is an understatement, I will never get to see my 2yr old granddaughter in one now, and won't get to have that wonderful feeling of pride where your heart feels like its going to burst seeing them so cute and singing..........I AM SO SORRY for writing all this in your post ncgrl, please forgive me, it was your reply to someone (who looks like he has been removed, and maybe mine will be too) That set me off again, I don't mind if you all call me stupid, I am even shocked myself how this has affected me so badly..................as there is a lot worse things happening in the world, but this has been inflicted on our community in our little world

Oh my goodness, yes...some are over the top, every foot of the yard is covered with some sort of decoration. Although pretty and colorful, I prefer the understated look, wreaths on every window and front door with a single candle in the windows. Sometimes we put a ground spotlight at each corner of the house. Simple, yet Christmas like. A neighbor puts up several thousand lights , trees, shrubs, porches, roof, everything covered with lights. He begins to work on it the first part of Nov.

Here people put them up right after Thanksgiving and almost every house goes all out. Lights, inflatables, music the whole shebang. Our park even does an entire light thing with about 50 lit sculptures and lights in all the trees. We drive through it about twice a week. Have taken the G-daughters out twice already. I love living in a smaller family friendly community. Not small, but then I moved here from San Diego.

Yes, especially downtown Milwaukee. Hubby and I will be taking a drive one of these weekend nights to see them. All the parks are lit and all of downtown will look like a wonderland. There is another place where for $15 a carload you drive through a mini-holiday of lights and we'll take a friend and see that soon, too.
Last night we drove along the lake road and so many of the mini-mansions were decorated beautifully.

Lights are spotty in this area, lots of people are not decorating this year, at least not yet. What's up are pretty, just not a lot. Maybe one or two per three or four block area. On my 8 block st there are only four houses decorated with lights.
Wish I could see a skyful of stars. there are too many city lights here and all we can see are straight overhead. I miss the dark.

NOt too many have their lights up here; but around the corner is a new-style 'farmhouse' that has the most beautiful lights wound around their porch posts and it is so welcoming I stop every evening just to gaze at it. Also there is a small town square a few blocks from me that has trees all decked in white lights and some artificial reindeer and old fashioned lantern type lightposts...GORGEOUS

The house on the corner across the street has a beautiful display of lights. They leave them on all day and night. The other houses have nice decorations, but nothing as eyecatching as that one on the corner.
A couple years ago, the man that lived next to us decided to go all out and light up their roof like the one on National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. The man nailed many many strings of lights to the roof. It was really a sight to behold when he turned those lights on...then it rained a week later. Rained IN their house. He's used LARGE nails to fasten the clips for all those lights to the roof and it leaked like a seive! Boy, was his wife MAD! But not as mad as she was when he fell asleep while cooking something on the stove and burned down their house last summer...
Living next door to them is like living at a drive-in movie!

Yes, they're pretty here, too. I haven't gotten to go "light looking" yet (I no longer drive at all due to eyesight issues) but I have seen some lovely displays of lights as I'm being dropped off after work. I love Christmas lights!

I seen some that are really pretty and the house is not over done. . .then I seen some that are scary. Santa in a race car, a snow globe and a nativity seen all on the same front lawn. . . .very tacky.
Have a good Christmas :)

They are brilliant tonight! Almost everyone on our street has their lights on and the snow is falling. Last year our street was on a list of "must see" streets for Christmas lights. We still don't have ours up, but after this snow storm, I'm pushing my husband outside with many strands of lights.
