Years ago, the Repub party stood for justice, honor, integrity, fiscal restraint, and accountability. Now, many seem to seek vigilante justice, fiscal ruin, and support the ends justifying any means.

If not for liberals, moderates, and independents, how much further down the sewer would the Bush admin have taken the nation?

Would we have a "surge" if it wasn't for democratic pressure?
Would we even have a debate about Iran if it wasn't for "liberals"? Or would we be in a third war right now?
I don't think the democratic congress gets as much respect as they deserve, personally..

We are forced to be so focused on the war effort, nothing else is getting done. Nothing on healthcare. Nothing on rebuilding our industrial base. Nothing about consumer rights.

Some of the 'benefits' other answerers point out come from more jobs at lower wages. Maybe those of us fortunate enough to have employer-paid benefits and 401K plans are doing OK, but otherwise all the good is coming to those holding stock and the average worker is losing ground, seeing a lower standard of living.

If Congress had not been a bit reborn in 2006, more ruin would have followed the gift to usurous lendeor in the bankruptcy bill and the gift to drug companies in the Medicare prescription plan.

And, we'd be sending troops to Iran, and no one would have been brave enough to admit the destruction of torture tapes by the CIA.

So, yes, we'd be even worse off. Not much good is happening, but it could be worse if the Repubs were still in complete control of all three branches of our federal government.

And as for conscience, why is it good conscience to care about the lives of those not yet born or about to leave the world via natural causes, but not about innocents in a foreign land or children living here hungry and under-educated or elderly in our nation fearing the winter cold? Unborn and nearly dead, they want you to live. Healthy and hungry or needing to see a doctor, don't bother a Republican.

Lets review-shall we? Low unemployment; low home mortgage rates sustained for several years now; no recessions; low inflation; everyone I know has a job; lower taxes.....yeah right, things are awfull! Oh and Bush tried to repair social security by giving us control over some of our social security funds but the liberals dashed that hope. We could have invested some of the funds at perhaps a four or five percent return rate instead of the pathetic two percent the government has been giving us for decades but the liberals thought that was a bad idea. Be honest, how many of you liberals would hire a financial planner to manage your personal investments and then wouldn't fire him if all he got you was a two percent return on your investment?

Speaking of conscience, mine tells me its murder to kill a child, born or unborn, so I think I can safely say the liberals are not the conscience of this part of America.

Years ago the Republican party claimed it. Talked the talk but never walked the talk.

Those with real morals and convictions drifted over to the right.

Now the hypocracy of the GOP is poking through and they are slowly drifting left again.

The democrats under Pelosi are just plain gutless. So those looking for morality will continue their quest.

Time has come for people pulling out of both Republican and Democratic "parties" and instituting a common majority party of another name because it seems east is east and west is west and they are at war-- not even interested in compromise,or falling in step with the most common denominator. And thus we accomplish little. Like CEO's who refuse to deligate.

Absolutely, More people are liberal in their love for this country then they realize.

I know so many Conservatives that vote Conservative but what really matters to them are the values that you speak of they just don't realized the Cons are not the people who are working for them.

Liberal became a bad word... Not because of their actions but because of the way the conversation has changed.

No, liberals are the anti- conscience of America. " If it feels good do it. If it causes a problem, find a way to blame Conservatives" is the motto.
By the way, You can't have a conscience without a soul. You can't have a soul unless their is a God.

Well, he pretty much had a free run of it there for 6 years. If the repuglicans still owned both houses, then we might be at war with Iran right now.

Yes. The republican was more middle-of-the-road 30 years ago. Now they cater to illiterates and fundamentalists.
Neither party can do tort reform!
