We live really far from where we grew up- and need to begin our own traditions. We have some but are looking for more. What are some you grew up with or that you use with your own children?

Bake some cookies on Christmas eve and leave some out for "Santa" Or if you don't do the whole Santa thing, then it's still nice to make some Christmas cookies and after that, open up one gift, like everyone else said. Then the house will smell like cookies and your children will always remember how it smelled around Christmas time.Since smell plays such a big role in recalling memory's.

I always enjoyed those holiday crackers/poppers (they are popular in England). Also I have to watch like every one of those old claymation movies or it just doesn't seem like xmas. Also instead of doing a huge dinner that spends all day cooking my family does a big breakfast of all those yummy, not so good for you morning foods. When I was little I also used to love cutting out snowflakes from folded paper and taping them in the windows for decoration. I dunno if those are really traditions but they are things I like about xmas! Oh and of course you gotta read "Twas the night before Christmas" before bed!

My favorite that has endured from childhood has been stockings. Fill them with goodies from Santa: edibles, some candy and some wholesome stuff, including fruit and nuts, and then little things that are fun and one special toy.

We always got to open just one present on Christmas Eve, it was usually PJ's.

Stockings filled with pistachios and chocolates and dollar store items.

Who ever is handing out the presents has to wear the santa hat.

If I think of anymore I'll come back and add them.

I remembered another one. TBS the past few years showed 24 hours of A Christmas Story. We watch it we got so sick of it. I can't wait for Christmas Eve.
