My car was towed due to street cleaning in September. A couple of weeks ago, both of my tires stripped and one of them exploded while I was driving it. Also, my steering wheel had been acting a bit wonky and wasn't centered anymore. We took the car to a mechanic we know and without us telling him anything but what happened, he had asked us if the car had been towed recently. We said yes and he concluded that the damage was due to the tow company attaching the car by the TIE ROD, thus bending it. The bent tie rod is to blame for these problems - the thing is, it's going to be a bit expensive for us to fix. Is there any way we can prove that the tow company is to blame for this and any way we can make THEM pay for it? It's only fair seeing that there wasn't even a sign where I parked.

Thanks!

You need to prove in court that (A) your car was towed, (B) Your car was damaged, and (C) the damage was caused by negligence of the towing company. A certified mechanic needs to testify against the towing company in court. And you probably need to prove that you were parked legally to begin with. You should seek monetary damages which include court costs, lost wages, and grief this has caused you, and try to get punitive damages.

Most tow companies don't accept ANY responsibilities to the vehicle being towed. Depending on the angle and such of how they have to load it is how they tow it. I'd say read the fine print in your agreement with the tow company. If it says anything like "we deem no responsibility in the transportation of said vehicle" or "I (the owner) take full responsibility for my vehicle during the time it is towed" ETC... then you're stuck with the cost, but most generally the tow company won't pay anything for damage done to your vehicle. Cosmetic or mechanical.

interior the case of towing there's a public want for it to be bumped off, and the city, prov., or federal government has the means to reserve which you pay the invoice to your towing. In all components i'm attentive to there is the two a close-by regulation (city or prov.) that makes you in charge for towing, and in some it creates a lien against your motor vehicle in case you do not pay.

You can sue them and put your expert - the mechanic - against their expert, who will probably say that you did something to the car (pothole) after you got it back. I mean, it was towed in September and it's now December. The time to note possible damage was immediately after getting the car back after the tow. Your chances of recovery in court aren't very high.
