mrscryst. . . is right. And if you are worrying about people faking being involved, that is where allowing civil ceremonies for homosexuals would solve that problem. If they could prove they were legitimately family of the person, then there would be no question.

I think that homosexuals are denied the right to live as anyone else does. If they are committed to another, they can't be given the same rights and considerations as anyone else that is committed (meaning "married"), like getting spousal benefits such as insurance, death benefits, and so on.

They are denied the right to live as they so choose because of some homophobic individuals that choose to pass judgment over others. If you are stating that homosexuality is a choice, then you are saying that heterosexuality is also a choice, therefore, there is no true sexuality other than asexuality (without sex). It just doesn't make sense. Just because you don't agree with it doesn't make it wrong.

Since gay marriages are not recognized in most states, spouses in gay marriages (there are gay women too) don't have same right as for example wife or husband in a straight marriage would have ---- especially in government affairs.

With a slight twist of words, you can say that gay men don't have 'right' to serve in the US military (don't ask don't tell policy ... anyone?)

Right to work (can be fired for being gay)
Right to inherit partner's property (even with a will, it can be contested)
Right to marry partner
Right to make decisions about partner's health (even with a living will, it can be contested)
Some states deny gay men the right to adoption and/or foster parenting
Until a couple of years ago, could be arrested for sodomy (the laws are on the books, a Supreme Court decision overrode them)

For one thing in many states a person can be fired by their employer for no other reason than they're gay.
